Im going to make the transition of getting Brooke into her own room over the next couple of weeks as she's fast outgrowing her moses basket and i dont have room for the cot in my bedroom.

Trouble is i dont know if i should bother to get a baby monitor or not ..

My bedroom is 2 metres if that from her room, its literally across the hall/next door.

Do you think i should bother or just go by ear?

Hannah is in the room next to us and we use a monitor as I'm a pretty deep sleeper and worry that I wouldnt wake up unless I hear her through the monitor (that I have turned up full!)

I'm the same, Joseph is only next door but I'm a heavy sleeper so I have a monitor right next to me so I can definitely hear him x

I have a monitor and I dont use mine.

I did at first, but i found myself panicing over every little noise, im not a particually deep sleeper, so always hear her. But I found with the monitor i was getting so panicky over every little thing. to be honest, I just keep the doors open.

x

Id have a monitor im overly paranoid that i wont hear her.

Sorry i forgot to add i live in a coachouse so she'd never be in her room and i'd be downstairs etc i'd be no more than a few metres awat at any time .. another reason why i dont know whether to bother

I'd say go with what you feel comfortable with, I mean lets face it. There are plenty of our older generation who never had monitors and all the mod cons and fads they have these days and well... Theyre still here.

But if your leaning more towards getting one go for it or you'll only kick yourself. I mean mine was only a cheapy £30 jobby from boots and as far as monitors go it was fine, suppose if ya dont find it useful or dont get on with it you can always ebay it etc.

Maybe just see how you get on for a while hun, if you are quite a light sleeper and like you said you're never far away, you could be fine without one x

i live in a small flat and i didnt buy a monitor cos i figured the bedroom is 2cms away from the front room lol, i ended up getting one cos shes in the bedroom, door closed and ive got the telly on and i cant hear owt from the bedroom so if she cried i wouldnt hear

x

I got mine yesterday and really glad I got it... Seren used to come to bed the same time as us but I've started to put her in her crib early so me and OH can have alone time.
I got the Tommee Tippee Sensor one and it's really good, she hardly makes a noise in her sleep so its reassuring to see on the monitor the little green light flashing so you know that she's all okay, otherwise I'd be upstairs checking on her ever 2 mins (I am really paranoid!)
We do live in quite a big house though and has very thick walls so we needed one, but it's just whatever you think is best for peace of mind.

I bought a monitor but it didnt satisfy my needs. When my LO got to the stage of being mobile, I would always go in and check whenever I heard a noise (paranoid mother!)

I then bought a video monitor which was one of the best investments I have ever made. Its fantastic to be able to watch my LO, and to know all is well through sight & sound.

i got mine for when im downstairs and annabelle is in bed mainly. my bedroom wall is annabelles room on other side but i dont think i would wake without monitor,
your house is different layout though hun so u might not need to bother. maybe trial it for few days

good luck with the transition

I think i might just buy a cheapy one and see what happens, that way if i end up not needing it then its not a biggie

I signed up to Marshall Ward which is a catalogue account and got £30 off my first order over £60, So I got a good monitor for only £30 and my thought was if it didn't work out for us then I could prob sell it on for a bit more and make a profit!

We live with my MIL, so we all have to share one room, but we do have one for when we have to leave the room, etc. If we were in separate rooms we would defiantly need one because when my DH gets up to take care of Kathryn in the middle of the night I don't even hear her cry (though he does get up right away), I'm such a deep sleeper.

We live in a small apartment and don't have a monitor though we sleep in a different room, it's not all the far from Hannah. Not sure if I'll be buying one when we move or not, depends on where we end up at (layout etc.)

I have a video monitor and it's worth it's weight in gold to me. Then again, I was the type of Mom who would still wake up in the night to make sure Claire was still breathing.

You could always find a cheap one off of ebay or something? It's too bad I didn't live closer to you, I have a monitor that works fine but I wanted the video one instead. You could totally just have it.

Its up to you how you feel! I never had a monitor as like you bedrooms were pretty close :)

Do what you feel comfortable with, I have always had a monitor with Dec, his room is right next to mine and my bed is against the wall where his bed is so I can hear every little movement, but I wouldnt be without my monitor!!!! I think I will still be using it when he is 18 !!!! Lol

We got one but we bought ours mainly for the sensor pad so we'd know she was still breathing xx
