We've been trying to decide if we need a baby monitor. We live in a 3 bedroom apartment but it's a nice smallish size so rooms are close together.

Anyone else in apartments and not getting a baby monitor? Our room and the baby room are across the hall from each other.

Well, we have a small house and ours still brought a sense of comfort. It's kind of pleasant to hear those little baby noises while in the kitchen, etc.!

I didn't use the one I bought last time when I lived in a very tiny two story townhouse and it was my only child. I could easily hear the baby crying and fusing. That being said I am now in a larger, more soundproofed townhouse with a basement I am often in and also have a 5 year old who needs my attention and sometimes I might need to nip outside to shovel some snow or watch DD in the garden so I definitely will use one this time.. still haven't bought it yet though.. I'll probably do without for a few weeks. So perhaps you can try and see for a week or two and see if it's working for you NOT having one and if you change your mind you can pop out and get one.

We have a small 3 bedroom house - but I got a baby monitor at my baby shower. I was told it'd be great when I'm in the shower - or when I'm in the kitchen etc...

Yeah, we don't really go outside. I'll take the suggestion (so long as someone doesn't buy us one of course) of waiting a week or two after baby is born then getting one!

thanks for the replies everyone!

I can understand that, Zooy. I live in a 3 bedroom townhome, but I am getting one because of the floors. Being on the same floor across the baby does make it a bit easier. I agree that it may not be necessary since you'll be right across the hall. :) Of course if someone gets it for you, definitely keep it! :D
