So as always each twin has his own thing. He is not yet standing up or cruising, he is 10 months. He has really come on though in the last 2 weeks, going from lying to sitting to lying, and rolls and commando crawls, and looks like he wants to crawl the "proper" way as his brother. He is also staring to kneel and looks like he is trying to stand up like his brother. I lift him sometimes so he can chew the fence of their playpen, he loves that, but he always does it on tiptoe. It looks so uncomfortable and his foot even looks like he twists it funny. His brother never did that when we stood him up, and doesn't do it now. Any ideas why this is?

A lot do it, couple of mine have. Not usually an issue unless it's happening constantly and as they get older and are walking, as can effect the tendons

Its just I've never seen him stand on his feet properly ever, is that okay? He only stands when we hold him up though.

I think so. Alice was a tip toe walker for a while and health visitor said it wasn't a concern and wouldn't be unless she was still doing it at around 2.
She said some do it in bare feet but put feet flat with shoes on- alice was opposite. It's something I'd just be aware of but not concerned about yet, he will probably grow out of it

Are his feet normal when he's not standing? Can you bend his ankle to 90 degrees without resistance? Do you notice any other funny positioning or movements? Just some things to note - if another thing seems off I'd push for a doctor opinion. Yes, toe walking can be totally normal - though I don't know about beating weight and not yet walking. Also look for other signs of sensory processing issues. Not to scare you, but just sometimes kids toe walk because there's a disconnect in how they process the sensations in their body.

Without seeing your kid, I'd say chances are this is totally normal. If you see other things that concern you aside from weight bearing bring it up with a good pediatrician or physio specialist.

And he's learning south so fast that this will probably all go away is a few weeks when he progresses to pulling himself up by himself!

Just wanted to say not to worry too much if you try to bend your son's ankles but can't, as my daughter totally resists me whenever I try to do that (I was concerned for a time when she went through a phase of pointing her toes lol), but she has always stood on flat feet and is walking alone now totally normally.

She does a huge stretch in the morning and bends her ankles right up with her legs straight so her toes almost touch her shins! So I know she certainly can do it lol. But the only way I can bend them myself is if I catch her unawares, and even then it's only for a second or two before she starts pushing back lol. x

My son walks on his tiptoes and he has something called Perthes disease. One of his hip balls is flat rather than circle, it causes him pain so he walks on his tiptoes permanantly and hes 2. we laugh that he has an invisible pair of high heels on.
anyway he does have an issue which causes toptoe walking but I would say the majority of babies are totally fine and just prefer to walk in this way and will walk 'normally' as they het more used to it

My DS always stood on tip toes when I stood him, but is bearing more weight flat footed now that he pulls to stand independently. I'm not concerned right now.

My nephew was like this, there wasn't anything wrong with him he just preferred to walk on his tip toes. Even now he's turning 8 next year and will walk on his tip toes occasionally.
