Hi guys,
my son is currently being fed on aptimal 5 times a day @ 7oz. He is now refusing to take his milk. i can get 6 oz down him first thing in the morning, but that's about it. He takes a few oz during the day but thats it. I have just tried him on a little baby rice and he seemed to like that. Hes on Calpol, and still wont drink. Anyone else had this problem? is it teething? does he need weaning?

Thank you in advance from a distressed mum.:nope:

xx

Hi hun, they go through phases of refusing their milk, it's normal. He could be teething, try cold teethers or little teething gel. Introducing solids might affect his feeding more, & baby rice is empty calories. He needs his milk more. Try to feed him with no distractions, when he's tired in a dark room. It might also be the teat size. If he takes around 24 oz (the min for his age) he should be fine. Omar's max was 24 oz at your LO's age. We tried weaning at week 20 due to reflux but he dropped his milk intake to 10 oz & we had to stop & try weaning again at 6.5 months.

it could be a number of things including teething or he may just be feeling under the weather. I would speak to somebody about it x

My DD just went through a 10 day period of refusing her bottles. The most she'd take is 12oz all day spread over 3-4 bottles. She's cutting her molars.

It could be teeth, about to hit a mile stone, ear infection.

I found that my LO is more after a 7oz bottle in the morning an hes less bothered in the day and hes 6 months he will poss take bout 2 to 3oz in the day i think if he could get the chance he would prefer to be off his milk completly but i need to keep him on it until hes atleast 1 years old before he can be on proper milk. Its hard isnt it! I can get his baby food down no probs but the milk after a certain time bout 5am onwards he will have one bottle an bout 8 or 9am hes not really bothered about bottles so i give him baby breakfasts instead an then try a few hours for a bottle if not i will give him baby jar food an then try again for another bottle i get a few oz down him thats about it in the day. i no how you feel hun it makes ya feel if there getting enough an babies like to make ya worry dont they. I wouldnt worry to much but if ur really worried id see someone about it but i havent because im putting solids instead of milk. Try gettin a breakfast that u can add his milk with so he might take it then. I tried that with LO hes not interested in his milk much. xx

mine is doing the exact same thing and is the exact same age- see my post above!
he drinks his morning feed and feed before bed and in between is all over the place! he was on 8oz feeds 4 times a day till last week and was happy and then upped to 9oz as he started draining bottles, 3 days in he stopped drinking bottles would push the bottle out mid feed etc etc. so we have changed the amount we give him, 8oz in the morning and last thing, and then 6oz during the day, mainly to stop waste and also i think 9 was too much for his tum? well maybe who knows! but a few people said their LOs did this for a week or so and then went back to normal, so I am holding out for that! x
