I wear my 12 month old all the time when we are out and about (not at home). He really likes front carry and so do I, makes me feel connected and then I can talk to him and make eye contact and see how he's doing. The couple times we have tried back carry haven't gone very well as I think he wants to feel closer to me. Granted, we haven't tried that in a while. I'm newly pregnant and was wondering how/if I can continue front carrying and for how long, or if anyone has any other general advice. Thanks!

Following. We are desperately ttc number 2 but I also wear my 14 month old most of the time and in a front carry. He doesn't mind a back carry but will only tolerate it for 30 mins or so on a good day. We do a lot of hip carries if he's going to be up for less than an hour or so. Could you book a session with a sling consultant to show you some good carries for pregnancy? I have seen some people front carrying when pretty far along on a Facebook site I'm on.

I would agree with the above book in with your local sling consultant and they have all the training to do a persona assessment and advise you

I was in the same situation and could never get the hang of back carries. I managed up until about 6 months with a ring sling and hip carry before it got too awkward/ painful. Front carries maybe 4/5 months. My toddler is 90th centile for height and weight though.

I can't wait to wear my new baby I miss it so much and I'm not sure if my toddler would go back to being carried.

Id say just carry on and see how you go. You'll know yourself when it gets too much

Thanks all for the replies. :flower: as for my local sling consultant... No idea where or how I would find that out! I've never even heard of such a thing. LoveCakes, can I use a woven wrap as a side sling type thing? I've seen that I think but no clue how he would take to it.

Sorry Livvy I've no idea, never used a woven.

If you google 'sling library' and where you are you should be able to find a group near you.

There are a lot of good babywearing Facebook groups too

Wow good for you! My kids were running around at 12 months and refused to be even picked up let alone a sling! They were also huge 95% so it would have been brutal. I stopped the sling by 9 months max.

You should be fine for a LEAST the first trimester. After that, just play it by ear and pay attention to what is and is not comfortable.

Laila, I have a snuggler for sure. Granted when we're home he's often running everywhere, but somewhere he doesn't know and he likes to keep me close by!

Sarahbear, my curiosity was initially piqued when I wore him grocery shopping last week and it already felt uncomfortable (only 5 weeks pregnant). I was wondering if it was just the bloat or extra pressure on my bladder or what!

I carried my dd up until I was about 7 months pregnant and she was about 18 months old but it was back carries (with a woven) rather than front carries. I think just be sensible about how you feel and as soon as it gets uncomfortable then stop. Might be worth trying back carries again as you would most likely be able to continue for longer.

Just wanted to chime in that you can look up baby wearing international and find groups. They have groups on fb as well. Good luck! My ds only stands the carrier while hiking but I really miss doing it all the time.

Snufflepop, which was your favorite back carry with the woven?

Depends on your wrap really. If you had a short wrap you could do a ruck tied under lo's bum so you would have nothing near your bump at all. I mainly used a longer wrap though and would mainly use a double hammock, or as I got bigger Christina's ruckless back carry. I highly recommend going on YouTube and looking at wrap you in love. The tutorials are great, really easy to follow.

Do you mean a hip carry? In which case you can definitely use a woven, we like a Robbins hip carry or popins.
Maybe try some different back carries too if you are using a woven and experiment with sling rings so boring is tied near your stomach.

Thank you both. Rainbow, do you need an actual ring for the sling ring ones?

I think it is best to have actual sling rings to try carries that use them just to be safe really but they are really cheap, usually less than £5 for a pair. There are hundreds of carries that don't use them though just do a YouTube search and you will get thousands. No sling rings needed for the hip carries either.

Thank you all. <3 I front carried today and it wasn't uncomfortable, just made my back ache a bit which I usually never have happen. I will look up and practice some hip & back carries too.
