I got back from an appointment today with our GP and she confirmed that my LO has a "light case" of oral thrush. She said I didn't need to do anything for it and that it should go away on its own... but I'm wondering if there are any 'home remedies' that are well known or anything I could do to help it go away? He's not having any issues feeding and doesn't appear to be bothered by it...but we're going on vacation out of the country next week and I'd like to be prepared in case it gets worse.

We're combi-feeding and I haven't noticed any issues myself, but is there anything I should/could to to prevent getting it on my nipples (which I've heard of before as well)?

Thanks in advance! :flower:

My LO (4 months) has had a 'light case' of oral thrush for over a month with no sign on going...we got oral suspension treatment but that didn't work and GP said to see if it goes on own but I'm taking her back as I don't think its nice or fair for her to have thrush endlessly! Like you I'm BFing and you can pass it back and forth so best to both be treated if it doesn't go

Only remedy I know of is for mother to take acidophilis supplement daily which can be preventative and make sure you air your nipples and change breast pad regularly as thrush likes warm moist environment

You need miconazole cream 2% for your nipples and miconazole oral gel 2% for lo mouth, you have to treat both at the same time as you will just pass it back and forth. Change breastpads regularly as damp warm environments will encourage growth as it is a yeast infection. Wash all your bras at 60 and everything lo puts in his mouth, sterilise toys, dummies etc regularly. It can be a real bitch to get rid of, I thought mine had gone but 2 weeks later is back again :(
If it gets into your breast ducts it can be painful and the gp can prescribe flucanazole tablets for 10 days to get rid but gps are sometimes reluctant to prescribe as they are not aware of it. If you get a copy of this
https://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/BfN_Thrush_leaflet_Feb_2009.pdf
And take it with you they can usually be persuaded! :)
Hth and good luck :)

Thank you so much - been meaning to research the info to take to gp but never get time so now you've helped me big time :)

My LO got thrush all the time from newborn to 4 months and now again at almost 14 months has it again...only thing that clears it up for her is oral fluconazole. Hope your LO has a swift recovery! I think its worse now on my LO than it ever was on her when she was tiny.
