What is the difference??
I am looking at getting a thermometer for my next cycle (when ever that is, AF is later than expected)
I was wondering whether a normal thermometer would do the trick for charting or is it recommended to get a proper basal ovulation one??
Any suggestions??
Thanks ladies

Hiya hunnie, i got a 1 from Argos, its a Vick's Digi thermometer was only a few £££'s and it clearly showed me that i ovulated last cycle e.t.c....

I think there generally the same thing (although not 100% on that), just make sure you take it at the same time to the minute if possible :) x

Hiya

I would go basal as they are more accurate to pick up the slight changes, i got mine off amazon only a couple of pounds and its great. I got a second one from boots in their special ttc packs but wouldnt recommend as you cant even change the battery but you def can with the ones from amazon.

I really find charting relaxes me and its no effort.

Lots of luck with it

:flower:

Currently awaiting AF. having bfn's so I'm guessing I'm out but just waiting for flow to show lol
But I was going to order a thermometer, so I can start charting as I thought going in to my 9th month ttc now is a good time to start finding out what time in my cycle I am ovulating!! So just getting ready and finding out what you lovely people recommend.
Thank you
Will def look into thermometers on amazon and argos!! :)

do you mind me asking what are they called, is there a special name for them?

ya, is there a special name for a basal body temp or will it just say "Basal Body Temperature Thermometer" on the box:dohh: sorry i sound like an idiot

The only real difference is that a basal thermometer will display the temperature to two decimal points, where as a regular digital or glass thermometer is only accurate to one decimal point.

I've read about it and some people say it doesn't matter because you need a difference of 0.4 degrees to tell if you have ovulated, so you should be able to detect it with a reg thermometer, but I bought a basal anyways.

i have a digi thermometer, must dig it out & see how it works, mind you, it makes a little beep sound when it's read the temp. I wouldn't be telling dh that im temping so he'l wonder what im at in the mornings

BBT for sure. I used a regular one for my first week of temping, then use both a bbt and a regular one (by vicks that was expensive) and the BBT was much more accurate. The regular one kept changing and was quite a bit off (a degree or two)

I used a regular thermometer for over 10 months of ttc my first child. It worked great.

This time around, the old thermometer had a battery that was going bad so I bought a basal. I don't really find it much more helpful. Use whatever you have on hand.

The basal body thermometer gives you more of an accurate reading because it goes to 2 decimal points. It would be hard to pinpoint ovulation with a regular thermometer because sometimes your temperature won't rise or drop enough to tell i think.

Thank you everyone :)
I will buy anyway I think, only cos my very first month of ttc I used a reg thermometer and it took forever and it beeps really loud!
Would anyone recommend any thermometer that is quiet when it beeps with the final temp??
xx

Ugh, no but I wish I knew of one. Mine beeps literally 10 times! That's super annoying at 5:30am.
