Baths

    Good afternoon ladies, how are we all today? Well I hope.

    I just thought I would bring this up as I am contemplating going and having a nice bath, I have had a bad viral bug for the last few days ( been vomiting every hour), my limbs are aching as is my back and stomach from all the vomiting.

    I have a bath every day and I have read that having a bath too hot can be unsafe ( obviously due to it affecting your blood pressure etc). I never come out of the bath sweating or red but sometimes do worry I may be having my baths slightly too hot i.e it would be too hot for my little boy to come in.

    Any ladies have any advice on this? I did have baths every day when I was pregnant with my son and he is fine - im just a worrier I guess:rofl:

    I have abath every day hun, i just dont have them HOT.... if i was 'normal' :)rofl:) Id def get the hot tap on as its slightly warm rather than hot, but not so cold that its horrible!.... sure theyre fine. :hugs:

    i was worried about this too, because i have to have mine HOT ! i cant have a bath if the waters warm, no way !

    i cant stop having my baths!

    Not sure if you have a bath thermometer, but the recommended temp is no more than 100 degrees.

    Warm baths have been used for centuries for all sorts of reasons and the relaxing effect on body muscles and on the mind is well known. There is something "luxurious" about soaking in a warm bath and there is nothing to suggest that this is unsafe in pregnancy.

    However, you do need to be cautious about "hot" baths as there is little known about the possible effects on the blood flowing through the placenta or on the baby. If the water is too hot, you could also feel faint or sick, as it could lower your blood pressure a bit too much - not a good thing.

    So how do you decide if your bath is "hot" or "warm"?

    Test the water with your elbow or forearm before getting in as you would for a child. This part of your skin is more sensitive to temperature than your feet or hands. Warm should be just comfortable so that you can get straight in without having to get in bit by bit! A too-hot bath is also likely to affect the colour of your skin, turning it red, and you may find yourself sweating.
