Hey mommies,

Just one quick question about what we are aloud and what not:
I was craving some BBQ Spare Ribs, and hubby invited me to Applebee's to have some Double Glazed Ribs that we are so fond of. It's the second time in my nearly 3 month pregnancy that I eat pork but I am now really scared that I was not meant to eat those, since it's pork and since it's grilled and since...

OH, I don't know. Food is driving me crazy, I never know what to eat and what not... I'm obviously a first timer...

Please help me out with this. The meat was not pink at all, and seemed thoroughly grilled/cooked, so should there be any problem?

Thanks from baby, and mommy L.

You should be fine as long as it is fully cooked. You don't want to eat processed pork (or any other type of meat) like hot dogs though. Ribs in bbq as long as they were fully cooked shouldn't cause any concern.

Why not hot dogs? I was under the impression that as long as food is steaming hot it is safe (maybe with the exception of some fish, which I don't eat anyway)...?

Hot dogs, deli meats and unpasturized cheeses have the chance of being contaminated with Listeria.

https://americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/listeria.html

You can read about it here.

With my first pregnancy I ate literally anything I felt like-- including unpasteurized cheese, 'medium' steak, runny eggs, deli meats, soft ice... I personally think some of the 'restrictions' are a little extreme. I've never heard of anyone getting listeria from a hot dog.

But that's just me--my LO is turning 2 on Sunday and he's perfectly healthy. The ribs should be fine (even if you are overly cautious). With this pregnancy I'm not going to think twice about any of that.

You should be fine! BBQ ribs sounds mighty good right about now! Yum

You are absolutely fine.

As long as your meat is cooked - so no raw hotdogs out of the package.

Make sure with leftovers that they ate heated to be steaming hot. Meaning its time to put the college days behind and no more cold pizza.

Food as to be heated.

Enjoy ribs! Its ribfest season where I am and I cant wait for our local ribrest!!!!!!!!

Absolutely! The only things I've ever been careful with is not eating bree cheese and runny eggs. I think if you listen to everything you'll never eat anything :dohh: and I'm on pregnancy no 3!

Ummm, just wanted you to know that because of this post, I ordered some ribs for lunch and it was damn good :-)

Ribs are fine. Hot dogs are fine. Pork is fine.(In the UK) deli meat is fine as the risk of food poisoning is so low.
The only thing I don't eat is pâté. I eat everything else soft eggs, pink steak etc etc

Basically, you need to follow the same rules as you did before. Make sure everything is cooked and prepared properly. I'm curious how big of an issue Listeria really is because it's always the main thing people mention. You *should* heat your cold cuts but you're not likely to die if you eat a cold piece of meat. Like a PP said, if you followed every rule of pregnancy, you would probably starve to death inside a plastic bubble. Just do your best.

Well I'm not eating RAW (or cold I guess is a better term) hot dogs, or deli meats, so I think I'm fine :)

i eat pork all the time, including ribs. i have with all my kids. i crave hot dogs..have eaten loads with all my kids. i have indulged a few times in lunchmeat..did with all my kids. have eaten a few eggs with the yilk running, milk shakes and soft serve ice cream..etc. my kids are ok and so far, so good with this baby too. ironically, i did not have these with my last baby..ok a hot dog or two but nothing compared to my boys and this baby and she passed..the chances of listeria are very rare so if you induldge now n then you should be fine

Definitely eat ribs. ribs are good on all occasions.

I'm now having rib cravings.

Other ladies have answered the more general what-you-can-eat questions, and it all seems to be slightly different as to which country you are in anyway. Pate and too much caffeine are about the only things I stay clear of. And alcohol until baby is about 20ish weeks, then I'll have a little bit at events if I want it.

I think its because pregnant woman are more susceptible to listeria.

Yep, that's what I was reading. Pregnant women are more susceptible to most things though. I don't disagree with taking precautions. I just meant that it's okay if you slip once in a while. One of my biggest cravings is a nice cold sub with pickles on it. Go figure, LOL. Luckily that's a craving I've given into maybe 2 times.

I'm craving BBQ ribs now too! And I've already booked my husband and I to meet up with friends for dinner tonight at a local Steak and Ribs place.

Ive eaten all the no no's during all my pregnancies with the exemption of sushi/ sea food other than cooked fish, buffet foods and unpasteurized cheeses, raw egg etc
As long as you eat the food when its piping hot and its cooked through, there shouldn't be an issue.
