Since finding out my ergo is a fake, I'm in search of a new carrier. I already have and like the k'tan for a wrap style carrier, but would also like something more structured so I can wear dd for longer time periods. My main contenders are the Beco Gemini and the Ergo Performance, since the regular Ergo feels weird in my armpits.

I like that the Performance has moisture wicking, lighter weight material, but my vanity is less than pleased about the aesthetics. The Beco Gemini is similarly comfortable and super cute, but I just can't figure out the clips and I'm concerned that I won't be able to get LO out on my own.

Do the clips get easier? Which do you prefer? Is there another similar non-crotch-dangler that I should be looking at instead?

Thanks!

Have no experience of the ergo performance, but I have a beco Gemini. I really like it. Things I'd say about it are that the material is quite heavily padded, which is good for where I live as it's not that warm, but could be too heavy elsewhere (ie california!), the safety buckles i find reassuring for added security and can easily undo them once you have tried them a few times, though others might find them a faff, I like that there are no extra bits required for newborns or smaller babies, it's all there, and I like that the straps can be crossed over my back as I find that easier to wear than the other way as it seems to spread the load more. I am considering buying a mei-tai for portability, as the beco is quite bulky whereas the other would fit in my changing bag.

Hope that helps some?

Other popular ones are the connecta and the boba 3G

You might also find some of these comparison charts useful?

I tried on a beco and an ergo and went with the beco. I found it much easier to put on than any of the other carriers. The clips have an extra little safety featureso that they don't come undone easily. To unclip you have to press a little button down and then unclip them. Is that what you meant about the clips?

We have the Beco Gemini and love it

Tried both and me and baby looove Beco. I wear her in it 2-3 hrs a day and my back is doing great and baby really likes it too :)

Edit: clips are very easy actually - all you have to do is clip at the waist, put straps on (like you do a backpack) and clip behind at the top and you're done. All other clipping is unnecessary once you adjust the carrier to fit you and baby

Yes, that's what I meant! It's funny, I work with my hands and have great fine motor coordination, but cannot figure out how to unbuckle them easily.

Thanks, those charts are really helpful! And as for where I live in CA, it's not as hot as you might imagine. :)

Oooh, boba might be the one for us, I have a very tall baby and it looks like we'd outgrow either the beco or ergo very quickly.

Lol, I did find them a little difficult the first few times I used it, but got used to it I guess. :)

I got use to the clips in the Beco....never tried the Ergo. I like the security of the Gemini....I have scoliosis and I have been able to comfortably wear my 15lb girl.

The beco is super comfortable even now with my 17lb baby, but admittedly some days I want to cut the clips off! I find them a faff to undo.
