If you could choose between these two, which one would you choose and why?

If there's another one that you love, please recommend it. :) I'm looking for something that baby can face outward (at least when I do front carry).

Thanks! :flower:

Outward facing is no good so I'd never recommend a carrier that allows it. It puts unnatural pressure on babys groin which is very bad for hips x

I have a boba 3g which I absolutely adore. Its doesn't allow for outward facing but as the pp said this is an unnatural position which puts pressure on the hips. I have also heard great things about the ergo. Xx

I have a beco Gemini. I never used it for facing outwards, apart from briefly just to see what it was like for me to carry in that position, and effect on the baby's hips aside, it definitely puts a lot more strain on your back carrying a baby face out than it does when the are facing you, as the baby doesn't fit against you the same. But I used it a lot with my daughter in a front carry, facing inwards and I really liked it - it's so easy to put on/take off, is nicely padded for both carrier and baby, and didn't aggregate my back/shoulders (I'd used a moby wrap previously and found it difficult to tolerate). One thing I'd say about it is that it is heavily padded, so probably not suitable for warmer climates, but suited our NI weather perfectly. I didn't use it much with my son though, as he was a big baby with a long torso, and it didn't seem long enough to support him fully - if you have a long baby there are better ones out there I reckon, but perfect for small to average babies. :flower:

If I had to choose b/t those 2, I'd go with the beco. I have the boba3g and love it. It's very comfy for me and baby girl loves it too. If you have a place where you can try some out, that's the best thing to do bc what one person loves, you might not. A lot of people like the ergo too, but my baby didn't like the infant insert. (summer here when she was born so too hot)

Thanks ladies!!

I'm not even 5'2" and DH is about 5'5. So I highly doubt we'll be having a tall baby. :haha:

And since I'm in So.Cal. it most certainly does get hot, but I do like the idea of a nicely padded carrier. Hmmm

I'll have to see if there's some place I can try some out. So that's two people who have mentioned the bobo 3g now. I may have to look into that one as well.

The Beco got awesome reviews, so I'll try to see who carries it in store as well. :flower:

Oh, do both Beco and Boba have a special way to carry newborns? I heard some stuff about the Ergo that it was very uncomfortable for newborns.

The beco has poppers on the bottom which allow you to adjust the width of the carrier to suit different sizes of baby. I didn't get it till my daughter was a few months old, but even though I didn't really use if for my son much he seemed comfy from an early age.

I have a boba 3g as well, its super comfy and my lo likes riding in it. And its cute! I have the tweet pattern :)

i dont understand why bjorns get so much stick, how different is a bjorn to say putting your baby in a jumperoo or other device that puts their legs in unnatural positions

Bjorns aren't as comfortable for the wearer. You probably won't carry long enough to do hip damage (although the position is not optimal at all), but there are more comfortable slings for similar prices that will last much longer, and also happen to be better for baby's hips.

We had a manduca. It's another one you might like to consider OP :)

I thought walkers and jumperoos weren't good for their legs, aren't they banned in places? Maybe its because lo is in a carrier for longer periods of time then those toys? Bjorns are uncomfortable for the adult carrying it to though

I have heard the Bjorn and Ergos weren't very comfortable to wear. Something about the straps and/or not enough padding?

I think extended use of things like jumperoos also are thought to cause hip issues. I could be totally wrong as I am by no means an expert.

Beco all the way! I used mine daily until my daughter reached the weight limit and I had to retire it

One of our most used baby items

I'd hope no ones baby spends hours in a jumpero o like they do a carrier!

I've read a lot about staying away from the Baby Bjorn, so...

I have the ergo, I can't compare it to anything else but I really like it, the only thing I find slightly uncomfortable is the straps are quite wide and can slip but I think that's more to do with the fact I haven't quite adjusted it perfectly for me yet, I've worn it for hours and been fine though, definitely enough padding. We got it from when DS was about 8 weeks, it comes with a newborn support which looks very comfortable for DS.

I don't like the idea of baby's facing outwards, they just seem too vulnerable to me. I know as a society we seem a bit obsessed with wanting babies to see the world, letting baby "look out" like in push chairs wanting to forward face ASAP but really the only thing a baby wants and needs is human interaction, lots of eye contact and looking at your face, it's how they learn :)

I've got an Ergo, which I used from 5 months to 2.5 years with DD1 and from about 8 weeks with DD2 and have been very happy with it. Admittedly I didn't use it all that much with the infant insert (I stopped using it around 4 months or so) as with DD2 I would've needed it through the hottest months of summer and found it a bit sweaty for both bubs and myself, but my sister (whose baby was born in the winter used hers daily with no issues.

We have a Manduca because the fabric was a little lighter (as in not as warm) than the Ergo's. Having said that, I believe there's a sports version of the Ergo with special performance fabric. Manduca do a sizing belt ("size-it") which makes it suitable for smaller babies but I've only just started to be comfortable using it at 6 months. It's great for older babies though!
In my experience, none of the soft structured carriers (ie ones with buckles) I've tried have had enough neck and back support for baby for me to be happy using them on a newborn. I'd always recommend a stretchy wrap over any of them for the first 4-6 months. Bit more hassle to put on, although not much once you've learned. But they're so much more supportive of baby and of your own back and shoulders as well. That said, even though I love baby carrying, I don't think there's any carrier I would have used in the Southern Californian summer. Whatever you use, baby's like a heat pack anyway and I'd worry about a newborn overheating in a carrier in warm weather. Unless you'll be spending most your time in air conditioned spaces of course.
Best of luck picking!
