Beco vs BabyBjorn carrier

I have a Bjorn. We bought it without research when I was pregnant (we saw it in a shop, thought 'we need one of those', bought it). We don't use it for hours and hours as I don't 'baby wear' around the house. We've only used it on walks for half an hour here and there, maybe longer about once a fortnight.

However, LO is 5 months now and I can't use it anymore as its really uncomfortable now he's bigger and he's too tall (his head hits mine now). He's almost too tall for DH to use it too and he's 6'1". I'm actually searching for a better one now as the Bjorn is useless. I would never have bought it if I'd researched them and realised there was such a variety.

A side note - I also have a jumperoo and LO only likes it for 15 mins max so I certainly wouldn't get any hip issues from him in that! I only put him in it when I need to do a couple of small jobs.

I'll be using a Calin Bleu gauze wrap for summer.

No one said anything about hip dysplasia anyway ^
I can't take that article seriously when its so biased against anything remotely natural parenting style in the first few sentences.

I have the moby go carrier, my lo is heavy (25lb) and I wouldn't know I was wearing him at all! If you're on fb there are lots of baby wearing groups you could join and ask their advice, pretty sure most of them wouldn't recomend a bjorn thou, some of the groups have actually banned selling them! I have no idea why, I've never delved that deeply into it to be honest it tends to get a bit controversial :haha: I did try a bjorn and it wasn't particularly comfortable for me, bear in mind I'm also only 5ft 3 and hubby is 5ft 6, we had a big baby so you just don't know. Depending on where you are when lo arrives you could always check out a local sling library and try some, I think you can rent them too for not much money and see how you get on before you buy :hugs:

The thing with hip dysplasia is that if your child isn't at risk of it, the Bjorn won't cause it. If your child has unstable hips, it could certainly make things worse. But you don't necessarily know if your baby is at risk until after any problems occured. The key thing for me is that the harness used to treat hip dysplasia holds a baby in the same position as an ergonomic carrier. We also know that cultures who carry babies with their hips spread wide have very low levels of hip problems, whereas cultures where the legs are extended for long periods have high rates of hip problems.

Regardless if the health aspects, I personally hated the Bjorn (as did my husband). All of the weight is put on your shoulders, with minimal padding at that. We got an Ergo and never looked back. I was able to carry a 30 pound 14 month old on my back for 6 hours through London without hurting. With our second son, he seems to live the Ergo as well. Added benefit: You can use the Ergo from birth until they are a toddler. The Bjorn won't last NEARLY as long, so you would end up buying a new carrier anyway.

The ergonomic soft structured carriers (Beco, Ergo, Manduca, Boba, Connecta, Tula, etc) will take you much farther than the Bjorn and they are way more comfortable in the long run.

I have both :)

My oldest loved the bjorn and both my tall husband and short me wore it with no problems when adjusted correctly, for walks and historic house visits.

I have the beco for the older baby /toddler wearing. My youngest is still in the bjorn and it's great for quick non buggy jaunts from the car to the shop/cafe. The beco will be great for the longer stuff when she finally gets to 15lbs.

There is NO medical / scientific evidence that a forward facing carrier will cause any problems in a healthy newborn, so put that out of your mind OP.

Personally I have tried both the Ergo and the Bjorn Active carrier with lumbar support.

Both are pretty uncomfortable if I'm being honest when carrying on the front, however I've recently started to carry my LO on my back in the Ergo which is really comfy!!

I've since sold the bjorn.

I have a beco gemini and a bjorn. The bjorn came first, and it was fine for the first 4 months but after that it became really uncomfortable and would hurt my back after carrying her for just a short time. So i bought the beco and its still comfortable to wear my chunky 2 year old. The only annoying thing about the beco is that the straps are really long and will drag on the floor until you buckle it in.
