Those with small people 8 and 9 years old (or around).... I'm surious what time you put yours to bed on a school night. Mine are 7.30pm up with a book to settle (when it's going smoothly lol) and 8pm lights out. They've been wide awake so starting to question if it's too early for them.

Ds is 7. We head up at 8:30 for a book which I read until 9:30 then sleep. We've been reading series of books aimed at older children/young teenagers for a while so depending on what is happening in the story I might read on a little longer. He's always quick to fall asleep after this and is awake at 8 for school. I have to say that he dropped his naps when he was 2 and has been doing 13/14 hours awake to 10/11 hour asleep overnight ever since which I know isn't the case for all children his age.

Maybe you could try heading up half an hour later and see how they cope with that and if they're still not settling after a week or two try adding another half hour. I suppose it's more about how they wake up in the morning really, if they stay up later and are grumpy and tired in the morning then it might be a case of going back to the 7:30.

Dec is 9, he goes up at about 9ish with a book to read and it lights out at 10, although he can still be awake at 12 reading with his torch or watching you tube after sneaking his ipad into bed. But Dec is a weird child, he could stay up until 4am and still be ready to go at 7am, the child doesn't need sleep :(

My 2 are both really ratty in the mornings if they don't sleep, they don't cope and have a 6.45am alarm. We've to drive to school 15/20 minutes by 8.30/35 but I am thinking it's a tad early for them now especially with the lighter evenings.

Planning to move back nearer their school over the summer so that will help and give them a little extra in zzzz

Thanks ladies x

My 4 year old goes to bed about 8 and is up by 7.

Hannah and Rhys go to bed between 8 & 8:30 and are up at 7:45. Leaning towards 8:30 lights out now but if they are grumpy they go earlier

I let them go to bed shortly after 8.30 tonight ... shortly after 9.30 they were pissing around ... so sod that! My smallest is a nightmare without a good sleep. I told them they could up later if they settled quickly so they were warned! Ha!

Mine is always "if you wake up early I make you I make you go to bed early"

Oh I've no bloody fear of them actually getting up early it's getting them to sleep

I went to the gym this morning and I forgot to set their alarm for 6.45 so they were up at 7.15 ... rush rush rush!

Mine like to get up an hour early on nights they are allowed to stay up late  Hannah's very much a morning person  I totally am not!

Zoe is 8 and we do bedroom for 7:30 and read. She is allowed to read up until 8:30 but is normally asleep before that. We get up at 6:45 at the latest but with the baby normally being up before that its anywhere after 6am.

I have them sharing a room atm and it can be impossible sometimes. I cannot wait for them to be back in their own rooms

Omar goes to bed at 8:00, he falls asleep between 8:30-9:00. He wakes up at 7:15-7:30

Joshua goes to bed between 7 & 8pm, depending upon how tired he is. He's allowed to stay up and read until 8.30pm if he wants.

Paige (6.5) goes to bed around 7.30/8pm. She is asleep within minutes and wakes around 7/7.30 (She gets woken up at 7.30 if still asleep)

Mines only 6.5 and he goes to sleep later than I do! I would guess he takes himself to bed about 9-9:30 (he's in his room at 7pm, drawing etc) and he gets up st 5:30-6.

Mines another who doesn't need much sleep. He goes in his room at 7/7.30 then I take the tablet away at 8, he'll then read/play/annoy me usually until 9 but last night was 10. Then he's up anywhere from 5-7. Today was 5, hrs hoing to be a nightmare after school!

DS2 is 7 has ADHD so he's got medication to help him sleep he takes at 6pm. He's in bed and asleep by 7pm. DS1 almost 9 and is anywhere between 7:30 and 8:30pm. The rule is, if he's still messing around after 8:30pm instead of being in bed going to sleep, then he goes to bed half an hour earlier than the night before if the same pattern continues each night. Once ended up in bed at 5pm for that reason and has made sure he's never done it again.
