hi there.....

well i went to see my doc today as still concerned about the bad low back ache i get from about 4 dpo right up until af shows...also explained the black/dark brown jelly discharge i got b4 af arrived this mth.....my doc said i should def ask my fs about having a lap & dye done as endrometriosis can be to blame?? i am currently on clomid 2nd cycle, been ttc for 16 mths, had a hycosy in sept, all fine. Im due to see my fs on 21st dec so will ask her then, my concern is i have mentioned the back ache & spotting i get b4 af arrives & she just shrugged it off & said you can go away & try & relax more or lets see if clomid helps....

anyone had a lap & dye?? im so nervous.....its such a blow as we even went to another fertility center last night and was considering iui or ivf......but if theres still something wrong with me i spose we will have to put it on hold....
xx

hey dancingkaty1

I had a lap and HSG done just this last summer for stage 2 endo! doesn't hurt at all, but it really all depends on pain tolerence i think. I took 1 naproxen before the HSG and didn't feel a thing and after my lap a bit sore but nothing out of the ordinary for me i'm a tuff cookie lol don't be nervous there really is nothing to stress about and if i were you i would demand your symptoms to be looked at more carefully, i was trying for baby #2 for a year before i told my doc, i think i have endo she said no, just because your 2 sisters have it doesn't mean you have it, she went on maternity leave and i got a new doc and she said well if you think you have it then we will just have to do a lap, and thats what she did and when i came out of sugery she said my dear you were right and caught it before it got worse...stage 2 not too bad little bits and pieces here and there and she took it all out! and she advised us to try try for baby #2 so thats what we did but after 4 years still no luck so I'm trying pre-seed this month fingerz crossed and babygravy to everyone and babydust! xox

Sorry Katy, can't really help as never had a lap & dye but I'm sure plenty of others will be able to give advice. :hugs: to you! xx

Why do you think you have endo tho?? I thought ladies with endo were in real bad pain?
Should i asked to be given a lap? I know idea if i have it!
x

Hiya

I had my lap and dye last week and was diagnosed with moderate endo. The operation itself is scary beforehand but I recovered pretty quickly and wasn't as bad as I had thought. Even if it is endo it doesn't mean you can't do IUI or IVF - in fact my consultant has recommended that as it will get up pregnant quicker hopefully and then pregnancy makes the endo recede anyway.

Trouble with endo is that it can be symptom-less and serious and you can also have loads of symptoms and only have a little bit - and everything in between. But don't worry, you might have nothing and if you only had a little bit and they can remove it as part of the lap op, your fertility rate can go up by as much as 75% apparently so that's really good.

I think going for the lap is a really good idea, even if it only puts your mind at rest. If you've got any other questions, happy for you to send me a personal message and I can fill you in. Try not to worry honey, its honestly not that bad at all. :hugs: :hugs:

Not necessarily. You can have no symptoms at all. I had painful periods, although until I struggled to get pregnant, I thought that was normal!

After going through the process myself, I would suggest a lap for anyone who has been through all the tests and drawn a blank (i.e. has been diagnosed with unexplained infertility). IMHO I think endo is at the root of many of these cases. I also got the impression the clinic would rather I had IVF anyway (as that way, they would get my money perhaps a couple of times!) but I am a born cynic! I had to go to a specialist separate to that clinic and got the op done on insurance. Unfortunately, a lap is the only way to diagnose endo but it also happens to be the way they treat it (by exision / burning) so you can get both done at the same time.

Worked for me! ;)

All the best x

my doc said endrometriosis symptoms include bad lower back ache & the blk discharge & bad period pains...all i have. Want to have the lap & dye done 2 chek b4 we go down the iui or ivf route as soooo expensive!!! Just wish that 21st dec would come round quickly so i can see my fs & get referred to have the lap & dye done.....im hoping theres not going to be a huuuge waiting list!! does anyone know where i could go private & pay 4 the procedure?? im in south east xx

i was diagosed with severe endo 2 weeks ago - no pains - regualr periods, it was by chance i foudn out..

dancing katy i have replied in the lap thread about the lap. i also had the hsg and hysteroscopy x

My symptoms are: nagging lower back / bowel / anal pain and feeling like I need to poo (sorry tmi!) from about 7dpo, then when AF arrives crippling tummy and lower pack period pains (I generally lose a day a month off work), nausea, headaches, clotty and quite heavy bleeding although AF only lasts 2-3 days, constipation and occasionally anal bleeding. Much of this is due to the fact that I have a large patch on endo on my bowel but I also have scarring around my womb etc so its been going on for a while. Oh and deep pain during BDing too.

Chin up though chuck - you may not have it at all but best to get it checked. The 21st will be here before you know it...

The best site I've found with info about the lap op is https://www.endo-resolved.com/laparoscopy_advice.html

Hey Katy, I have severe endo. Had laparoscopy in April this year where alot was removed except for what's on my ovaries. I have two endometriomas on my ovaries which were drained of the yucky stuff but they were not able to remove them completely. Hence, they've now filled back up again and my ovaries are actually stuck together (called "kissing ovaries). Symptoms have been all of the above from Baby Christie but from my research I gather that the pain does not necessary relate to the severity of the endo. Everyone's different.
So go for it. The lap and dye is not that bad. I'm having open surgery in January to separate my ovaries and clean up the new endo regrowth. I'm cacking myself about it but I'd go through anything to realise the dream of having a little one.

Hey hun

Im sorry about the kissing ovaries, does it hurt? Ive got sever endo and had my lap last week. I had some major work and grateful it wasnt open surgery. Ive had open surgery last yr, if u have any questions ask away. I hope your recovery will be quick and the sugery is a sucess!

Thanks Dilek, pain is certainly not as bad as before the laparoscopy in April. Which means the other endo that they took away must have been causing the really awful pain (you know the one that makes you wish you could just lie down and die!!), so I'm grateful for that. I'm worried about the recovery time and how much time I'll need of work. Also, I know this sounds stupid, but I'm a little upset about having the surgery scar. I've got other problems which is causing me lose my hair at the moment. Can't get to the bottom of it. So with the endo, 8 years trying to conceive, going bald etc etc, I'm not feeling too great about myself at the moment. OMG, I'm so depressing. Did I send you to sleep

I didnt want to mention it in my earlier post but it took me a long time to recover from the open surgery. Maybe 4 weeks till i was walking ok without bending over. My back was in constant pain because i was unable to stand straight. OMG going to the loo, ohh and then just using my abs to sit up took like the 4 week mark. I would say it took me 2 months to be ok. Im sorry its scay but thats my experience. I stayed in hospital for 3 nights.

The scar, well the scar they dont tell u about that. My scar is quite neat, you cant tell when ur wearing a bikini BUT BUT!!!! if you hold some fat in your lower stomach, well its funny how can i explain, below the scar its pulled quite tight and there is hardly any fat but because of the tightness above the scar the fat kinda flops over. (you kinda have a mini roll) :growlmad:Its really hard to explain and if you have any girlfriends thats had a c - section they can show u. LOL

Is there any way they can do keyhole than open???? My recent surgery was major but they did it via keyhole. The reason i had open was because of 5 dermoid cysts a size of an orange each attached to my left ovary. The surgeon was unable to suck the crap out via keyhole and then they had to open me up. OPEN surgery should only be last resort. I will fight with any surgeon if they dont consider kehole first.

Sorry about the lecture, its just my personal experience.

BTW i was one of the lucky girls at the beginging u had no symptoms at all. But my endo appeared in 4 months and it was graded 4  Ive had endo only for 1 year

Hi Dancingkaty

Well glad you have an earlier appointment with the FS to discuss lap&dye. That is my fear too - that I have endo - i have the lower backache, the heavy periods, the clots, the black/brown discharge, bowel problems, the list goes on - I went to the FS in June and endo wasnt even mentioned - she just put me on the IVF waiting list - im annoyed now that I didnt ask more when I was there about what could be causing my infertility - can i make another appointment with the FS I wonder? It will prob take another 6 months. By that stage my IVF waiting will be over -but I dont want IVF - only as a last resort.

I think after christmas I will take charge of my fertility and go to the doctor and see what the next step is for me - that will be exactly 2 years actively trying (and an extra year NTNP - so 3 years total....)

Now im sipping my raspberry leaf tea (to help with the sluggish uterus)....
