been off work sick then found out im pregnant

hello all! iam new to all this so will introduce myself..iam 32 n av currently just found out im about 6 weeks pregnant (unplanned)

my problem is that i fell ill at christmas and av been off work sick since. i am currently under a neurologist and he suspects that i have got m.e but i need to av a MRI first to rule out anything else (which i am waiting for a appointment - if i can still av 1 now im pregnant that is?). i have been feeling better over the last few weeks n iam hoping to return to work in the second week in june. - i have read that people with m.e often feel better wen pregnant due to something to do with the immune system so thats y i may have perked up. anyhow my worry is that because ive ad all this time off sick that i wont b entitled to maternity wen the time comes. i have worked for my employers for 8 years (permamnent contract) n currently get paid 6 months full pay (which is due to run out soon) n 6months half. iam really worried about my maternity pay n wondered if anyone knows anything about it? thanks for any advice offered

I would guess that it would still be available to you, depending on your contract. Maybe go to the citizens advice and see what they say.

i would think tht you will still def be entitled to maternity leave as you are still an employee..

however the bit you need to get checked is how much mat pay you will get.. as i think you only get an amount based on average wages?

I think you will still be entitled to it as you are still an employee.

As others have said you will need to contact your company to see what their policies are on maternity pay, but I dont see why you shouldnt get it because you are still classed as an employee even if your off sick.

thanks to all for replys. im going to talk to work after holidays because i am a teaching assistant who works with children with autism (part of y i couldnt return to work with sooner with this illness as its such a demanding job) and we have just broke up for 2 weeks so will av to wait til then. your answers have made me feel a little better - thanks again xx

This is what I thought! I would be very surprised if you didn't get Maternity pay!
