Hi everyone,
This is my first post i have put on here, am looking for a little advice from all you other ladies.
I went for a growth scan on friday at the hospital and was told that my baby is measuring small, she currently weighs 1.68kg which equates to 3.7lbs that was at 32+2 days, we have to go back in 2 weeks to make sure she is growing.

My hubby is telling me to stop stressing as i am only 5ft and he is 5.5ft he expected our baby to be a small, but i cant help but stress myself out aout things, think i am also stressing as i dont look like i am 33 weeks tomorrow, however baby is moving well etc. Fingers crossed she is growing all ok by next week!

I had scan on friday 35wk6days and baby only weigh 4.3pounds but otherwise healthy said a prob cant carry big babies they will just monitor me for next couple weeks x

I don't think that's unrasonably small. Mine measure 4.2lbs at our 32 week scan. If babies gain an average of 1/2lb a week, then that means yours should be 7.7lbs at 40 weeks. That's a pretty average size I'd say...

I am 4ft 9" and I expect the baby to be small, I was only 2lb 14 when I was born. I wouldn't worry at all. So long as baby is not in distress then a small birth weight near term isn't going to be a problem.

Im in the same boat :( Been for a growth scan today and baby is weighing in at 5lb at 36+1 at 34+2 she was 4lb14 and at 32+1 she was 3lb9 and at 28+1 she was 2lb8
So in 2weeks they recon she has only put on 2oz and i have to go back next tues for a doppler scan and they are on about just inducing me next week too talk about scared ! x

I know exactly how you feel. I have been experiencing the same thing with my pregnancy. I have been told since 18 weeks that my LO is measuring small. I have had SEVERAL nonstress tests, sent to the hospital to get an ultrasound by a specialist, given steroid shots, biophysical profile exams, blood tests, urine tests... you name it! At 29 weeks my LO was measuring 2 lbs. 6 oz at the doctor's office and 2 lbs. 11 oz at the hospital. At 33 weeks she was measuring 3 lbs 15 oz. However, I went just this past Friday at 36+3 and she was a whooping 5 lbs. 15 oz and in the 28th percentile! I have been instructed not to work as I tend to have high blood pressure and my doctor wants to make sure all of my blood flow goes to baby. The only advice I have is to keep in close contact with your doctor and develop a good relationship with him/her. Good luck to you and your baby!

Hi, I was told this with my 2nd child and he ended up 9lbs 10oz don't worry yourself if baby is ok then and your getting plenty of movement then it will put weight on, sum babies start to put on all the weight at the end faster than others

I was sent for a growth scan with my first baby at 36wks, my bump was small everyone said. Scan showed all was perfect, and OK they said baby is not going to be huge, well I knew that!! Anna was born at 39wks weighing 6 lb 15 oz so perfect for 39wks!:flower:

My own community midwife has said all along she thinks i am having a "decent" size baby, but yet the hospital says small!! So who knows! I have been given aspirin to tske every day to reduce my chance of pre-ecalympsia and they have told me to start taking pregnacare again. Apparantly my doppler thing where they measure the blood flow was fine, so am just hoping our baby will be ok. These drs etc know how to worry you!

i have a 2 vessel cord and i have a scan every 2 weeks to make sure my little man is growing at my 28 week scan he was barely 1 lb at 30 weeks he had a growth spur and was 3 lbs 12oz dont stress even small babies can be healthy babies :)

The scan's are often wrong with size determination anyways!! As long as bubs is healthy I wouldn't worry. I'm pretty tall 5'7" 5'8" and about 125 130 pounds pre preg... and I've been told to expect a small baby too as my dr. predicted her barely 2 pounds at 30 weeks.. But since she seems to be growing fine and she moves alot it isn't of concern to him.. I was only 7.3 and I was induced 2 weeks late!

Just relax until your dr. tells you otherwise i'm sure everything is just perfect :)

I am in a similar situation. My baby was measuring small at 32 weeks she was 3lbs 7oz but her legs, arms, abdomen, and head were also measuring 2.5-3 weeks behind. I have to go for fluid/doppler ultrasounds twice a week and have another ultrasound at 38 weeks to make sure she is still growing. I have been told as long as complications don't arise that she will most likely just be a small baby. I have however been instructed to pay attention and make sure her movements don't decrease a bunch as I have been told that since she is on the small side she is at more risk of fetal death before she is born or stillbirth.

3.7 lbs. sounds good. Around 4 lbs is average at 32 weeks. Just means your baby is about a weeks behind which is normal! My baby is a week behind, but my Dr. said its great and he worries when there is a 21 day difference

I've heard the scans are often wrong too but that doesnt sound small to me x

Hi Hun,try not to worry, I went for a 4d growth scan and she was 2lb 3oz at 28 +2, I doubt she's going to be much different to yours lovely when I'm at your stage so don't worry, I think they just like to reassure themselves more than anyone else!!

Sounds ok to me. Scans can only give an estimated weight anyway, mine were

34 weeks - baby est weight 3 1/2lbs
36 weeks - baby est weight 5 1/2 lbs
38 weeks - baby est weight still 5 1/2lbs

The leg measurement was wrong on the 36 week scan (don't ask me how but for some reason the sonographer seemed to think we were giving birth to a giraffe!) and so that made a huge difference to the est. weight. When i spoke to my MW about it she said that there's only so much they can tell from one scan and it's the rate of growth and how the placenta's working that's more important.
