being overdue and not being induced?

what happens?
anybody out there who has done it?

i really don't want to be induced if this one goes over. last time was horrible and i hated it.

im seeing my midwife tomorrow so im going to make sure she knows that i really don't want to be induced again. no matter how desperate i get lol.

is it really dangerous?

They can not force you to be induced.

Before the current system of medical meddling, women frequently went over that magical due date. Normal gestation is 38-42 weeks.

If you or your MW are concerned, then you can have fetal monitoring to make sure the baby and placenta and such are all fine.

Barring medical issues, going over due isn't dangerous. It just means your LO needs extra time to develop.

Do some research Cherry, and find what will make you the most comfortable. That way you can argue from a position of knowledge, and not fear.

Interesting..I was wondering the same thing cherryglitter - I am nine days over due and off to the hospital to talk about it tomorrow..not to sure what's best to do? I don't want any risks or harm to come to little one, I just don't know, I havent heard a lot of postive things about being induced and then having to stay at hospital on my own kind of put me off..xx

i do believe induction works if you're ready to go into labour but your body needs a kickstart.
i however was not ready at all! i had two sweeps and she said my cervix was normal, no thinning or anything.
so i dont think they should've induced me to be honest.

Is the pain of contractions meant to be that much more intense? xx I feel so nervous about it!

yes contractions are meant to be more painful due to the speeding up the whole process. i was repetedly advised to have an epidural whilst i was being induced but was dead against it; in the end i had to because the pain became unbearable but my baby was back to back and i didn't know.

i won't even consider an induction again - if i go overdue it will be a c-section (i was induced and ended in a c-section first time and hated the experience). i blame the induction for the trouble to be honest. if they'd left me alone to experience the slow labour i was in i'm convinced i'd have been fine.

having said all of that there are women on here that have perfectly fine inductions and it goes very well for them; it seems to be just the minority that have a bad time.

It is because pitocin causes longer and stronger contractions than would normally happen with an un-augmented labor.

If you have had a c-section, do not let them induce you. It raises the risk of rupture.
