I had an umbilical hernia as a baby (so basically an 'outie' belly button!!!) and until I was child can't remember when it went in but it was during primary school. Anyways I've happily had an inny for years now...but now I'm pregnant I've noticed it's gone quite hard around the edges and slightly sore. I was just wondering if there were any implications for pregnant women who had outies as children??? I'm assuming it'll inevitabley pop out sometime during pregnancy??? just wondering if anyone else has had this??? (I will be asking my MW about it at the 16 wk apt!) Thanks.

I'm not too sure, I know belly buttons can pop out, mine hasnt yet, but its nearly flat lol

Oh gosh, Im not sure? Ive always had an inny, but I have a funny thing with my belly button, I hate touching it, makes me want to pee, it makes me squirm at the thought of it 'popping' out...ewwww

Hopefully your MW will be more helpful than me! :) xx

I had a umbilical hernia as a baby too and finally got an innie as a child. My belly button has slowly been working it's way forward again and I figure I don't have much longer before it pops out lol. Mine isn't tender though. Yours probably is just from the stretching of the muscles...it doesn't hurt to mention it to the midwife at your next appointment though.

Belly buttons often pop out in the last three months of pregnancy and go back to where they were prior to pregnancy once the tummy returns to it's normal size/shape. It is all normal and nothing to worry about hon...

The tenderness is related to the stretching of the skin around it.
