Please help! My 3 week old has bad reflux and hardly drinking anything as she sicks it up. She has bad wind, arches her back and cries after a feed but not for a long time just for a few seconds.

What milk can I use to help her? She is using Aptamil 1 and never had a problem until the last few days. She was drinking 3 full ounces and now hardly manages 1 without stopping and starting.

I have looked online and there is a few to choose from?

I believe Cow and Gate have one. We used SMA Staydown with great results

Thanks Atomic, is that the one that needs making differently to "normal" milk?

It does, but its much easier than it sounds. We used to boil the water, let it cool in a bowl of water until it was cooler and then pop in the fridge, use each bottle when required.

I was always worried about the whole "its not what the guidelines say" think but i guess its about weighing up the pros and cons and using SMA worked when nothing else would.

Maybe you should try adding gaviscon to the milk? x

Cow and Gate and Aptimil both do a 'anti-reflux' milk. I use the C&G one and my LO has never been sick since. The only issue is that you can't buy it in supermarkets, only Boots so i have to stock up whenever i am near a Boots. But honestly it really works. I have been usuing it for about 2 months now. I tried giving my LO 'normal' C&G milk the other week to see how she would react and she spent the evening throwing up, which does go to show the 'anti-reflux' milk does work. You can make it up exactly the same as stage 1 formula except you have to leave the boiled water to cool for 45 minutes rather than 30 minutes, and you have to roll the bottles as well as shaking.

I used SMA staydown with DS 1. It's a bit awkward to make as you can't shake it. It did help though.
With DS 2 I've used aptamil anti reflux and its amazing. He stopped being sick after the first feed. I'd say it was easier than normal milk as I add it to room temp water. I just fill bottles up and leave them in the side then add powder when he wants a feed. Like another lady has said, they only sell it at boots but I order mine online off boots.com

I've tried gaviscon also and found it rubbish. Didn't help at all.

I thought the cow&gate and aptamil one were the same? The cow and gate one sounds more like the sma staydown

You can buy carobel over the counter which is basically all that the anti reflux formulas contain - carob bean gum.

SMA stay down thickens in the tummy rather than the bottle but the aptamil and cow and gate ones are the same

My DS is 6 week old and is on aptamil and he throws up constantly even after just an ounce with it I think it's quite light?

He has been given infant gaviscon but it doesn't really help that much tbh
