Best yogurts / fromage frais

I didn't realise you could give babies yoghurt over 6 month! you learn something new everyday! Can you buy plain yoghurt and mix berries/banana in it too?

That's what I do. I buy plain full fat greek yogurt and mix in either some fruit puree, or just fresh cut fruit for him to pick out. Sometimes with berries, I'll microwave them for about 20-30 seconds so that they stew slightly and then mix it all into the yogurt so that the juice gets all mixed in and the fruit is soft and squishy.
I heard you shouldn't give them adult yogurts, especially natural yogurts, or those with "good bacteria" etc, because apparently babies can't digest it?

In Gill Rapley's BLW book she recommends giving babies full fat natural yoghurt

Probiotic yoghurts are fine for babies.

And just a word of warning about product labelling - 'all natural' does not mean low or no added sugar. Sugar is a natural product...

Asda great stuff fruity fromage frais are really good.No bad stuff in them and you get 18 for £1.48 I think they are.xxx

I also do this because of all the sugar in baby yoghurts - even my older girls prefer it

im a bit of a stickler for reading labels and study the yoghurts for ages!!! sad i know!
came to the conclusion that the neo valley ones are one of the lowest in sugar. i also buy the muller little stars, which arent too bad i dont think. the petit filous ones were quite high and some of the supermarket own brand ones are too. however, i only went by the choice available in my asda, there might be others out there with lower amounts of sugar in
x

Does anyone know why petit filous are so high in sugar? Is it the sugar in the fruit or have they sneaked it in there somewhere along the line?

Looking at the ingredients on their website, it's mostly from added (processed) sugar. If nutritional labels in the UK are the same as in the US, that means that processed sugar is the 2nd most prevalent ingredient, after fromage frais, followed by water, then 5% fruit puree (natural sugars in the fruit), and then added fructose (more sugar) on top of that.

It's not something I would personally go out of my way to give Ronan.

Thanks for that, i've never bought them for lo because I heard that they have a lot of sugar. I just don't get how they can get away with pushing them as a kids product when they are so loaded with sugar!

I'm not even sure that they're even the worst, I'm sure in Sainsburys the other day I found some that sugar was actually the first ingredient on the list! I was standing there tutting at all the yoghurts, people must have thought I was very odd.

Ellie likes Muller Little Stars but we've tried various others like Yeo Valley, Plum, Rachels :)

 That's the kind of thing i find myself doing!

Adam likes Little Yeos yogurt and Little Stars fromage frais (if it's all I can get, I prefer for him to have organic dairy), and plain full fat Yeo Valley. I won't give him Petit Filous. I used to get Plum but he wasn't too keen, and anyway I haven't seen it in my Sainsbury's for a while.

They're not in my sainsburys either any more, or even Waitrose! They are actually Ruby's favourite. :(
