:happydance: I'm really excited - I've been asked by the lactation consultant at my local Children's Centre to train as a BF Peer Counsellor! I can't wait; have a meeting on June 5th all about it.

YAY!! :yipee:

I picked up a book on my suggested reading list for the ABM training yesterday and I thought of you. I couldnt get The Womanly Art.....so I got this other one - when I'm done you can borrow it if you like. It's a very straight forward reference book really called 'Bestfeeding: How to Breastfeed Your Baby'.

You'll be great

If they dont do it in your area write to ABM Toria - age has nothing to do with it. Think of the young mums who could relate to another young mum. :D

aaw i'm so jealous!!

toria, i reckon they'll favour you for being young. i said this somewhere else, but it hink a young mum would be like, i'm not listening to someone older, but they'd listen to someone their own age xx

I'm going to look into it...

I wanted to do loads of qualifications and become one of those ward BF help type ladies.. but I don't want to have to push breastfeeding on the ignorant  I want to help those who want help!

Thanks girls!!

Lisa, I would love to borrow the book - thank you! I know Amazon and Waterstone's both sell The Womanly Art of BF :)

Toria, I agree - I think your age would be a tremendous asset! I think younger mums would really feel comfortable talking to another young mum. I would definitely look into it as you would be amazing!

I dont think it's about pushing people. There are kids who want to learn and others who dont - you dont turn your back on them just because they dont want to heard your message. You learn how to engage them.

You didnt want to BF at first - I'm sure that people were happy to help even though you'd initially said you didnt want to. ;)

Toria, but you'd be wonderful for the young mums who thinks their boobs are going to fall out or something just because that Cheryl cow said she disagreed with nursing...

Anna - I went to Borders :dohh: I think I'll have a nip to Waterstones this week :D

Actually, when I told them I wanted to try breastfeeding they looked at me like I was an alien

Is it illegal to get my boobs out for them and PROVE that your boobs can still look great while breastfeeding???

I mean like the people offering advice on here....people didnt write you off as ignorant - even if they thought you were an alien in the hospital!

True....

Since the thread that got onto formula adverts I've been thinking why breastfeeding was alien to me, and I'm soooooo sure it's those adverts and how bloomin' discreet us boobie feeders are. I've never noticed someone BF in public although I'm sure I've been near/past loads!!

I think about it too much now. It makes me want to protest

It's amazing how many people think I'm just cuddling Alyssa when I'm feeding her in public :)

Are you trying to draw me into spilling the beans about the difference in BFing uptake between countries that allow advertising and ones that dont.... :coolio:

No

I know you'll spill all by yourself eventually :smug: but I'm off to google!
