bfing might stop soonish for us

The doc said today that as of 10 or 11 months she'd like Ted on cows milk fortified with vitamins - here its called Lait de Croissance or "growth milk" in English. Was anyone else advised this?

I feel a bit sad that there's only a couple of months or so left of bfing but am also kind of looking forward to daddy being able to feed him etc.

Am also sensing a battle to come as Ted loooves boob!..

Is there a medical reason for this or is she just saying it because it's the 'done thing' over there? I've certainly never heard of cows milk being better than breast milk before - maybe (if you don't want to give up BFing) you could just give him those chewable vitamins instead?

I will do it gradually anyway, as he really loves boobie.
I'm seeing her again next month so will ask her a bit more info.

We do both love breastfeeding but a part of me is also looking forward to the end....but am scared i'll miss it too...is it possible to be addicted!? lol

I'm wondering if it'll have more calories or something as he could do with being a bit fatter but otherwise I assume it's just the done thing here. The doc is actually in Switzerland so maybe its a Swiss thing.

It likely is more fattier... but you do what you think is best for you both... At his age though he will likely feed himself once he starts having a sippy cup or tumbler or whatever.

You could always have another baby?? hehe...

I would imagine breastmilk would be more than fine until you are ready to stop as your breast milk changes as your babies needs change with age and will be getting vitamins etc from other foods????

Here it is advised to start giving them cows milk at 9 months, but still bff or give formula until 12... but you eventually give them more cows milk and less f or bm.

Giving cheese or yogurt is no different then giving cows milk.

Erm excuse the bluntness but it's your choice and not your Dr's....I'm afraid Dr's don't know everything. The decision is yours to make and nobody elses, especially if there's nothing wrong with your baby.

Tell the Dr you intend on breastfeeding for X amount of time and won't be stopping any sooner....I've never heared such a silly suggestion

its not regular cows milk...but it is still cows milk. Who knows....I was also told that cows milk would be given after 1 year and now they seem to have changed their minds?

Anyway, I like Ryders suggestion of another baby!! hehehe....

over here you're advised to give vitamin drops if you BF after 6 months xx
