Hi ladies,

I hope you don't mind me posting here but I'm kind of in limbo right now and was wondering if anyone had heard of something like what I'm going through and, if so, what was the outcome? I posted this in Miscarriage Support but I think I've stumped them all, so I thought I'd try here:

I started to m/c on April 14th with extremely light spotting. It gradually increased over the weekend and, by the time I saw my DR on the 19th, my uterus was completely empty with the exception of a few blood clots. The bleeding continued on for one week like a normal period, with more clots released. It stopped around 4/22 with occasional light spotting. That weekend, 4/24, OH and I were in Las Vegas and had a few drinks, we ended up :sex:. The only time. About 6 days later, I was still spotting brown but only when I wiped and I noticed some EWCM mixed in with the old blood so I took this as a sign of ovulation. My breasts are also a tad bit more tender than they were a week ago and I'm nauseous ... both very typical of me when I ovulate.

Back on the 19th, the doctor had ordered some blood work for me (to determine the cause of the m/c) and said that I needed to have a negative HPT before going in. I planned to go tomorrow so I took a test today (digital in the middle of the afternoon) and it's positive. I'm freaking out right now. It's been nearly 3 weeks and I wasn't even 6 weeks along when I first started to miscarry. I asked them to run HCG levels but they said everything was out, including tissue.

Anyway, I called the doctor for some advice and they ordered an HCG test. Now, I'm just waiting for the blood work to come back to see what my levels are and we'll take it from there. It has to be too early to be pregnant. And I'm so, so nervous because I doubt my body is ready this soon. I'm also worried that there could be something left that they didn't catch ... which is most likely the case.

I'm curious ... has anyone experienced (or heard of) this before? And/or what was your experience with becoming pregnant straight after a miscarriage (no AF in between?) The nurse that I spoke with flat out told me that my chances of miscarrying again are great since my body hasn't healed yet. If I am pregnant, I really hope that she's wrong! :nope:

First, I am sorry for your loss.
Second, I thoroughly disagree with what the nurse told you. I saw one of the top OB/GYNs in the area when dealing with my loss and I asked him about waiting to try again. He assured me that they recommend waiting for emotional reasons, but that your body is ready and will be fine.
As for the BFP. I lost my baby in March and in April I thought I was pregnant. I phoned my doctor and he told me not to bother with a HPT because it could still read positive from the previous pregnancy. I went in for a blood test, then they did a second blood test a few days later. The idea was if the second read higher than I was pregnant, if it read lower I was not pregnant and it was just left over hormones. In my case I was pregnant, so it is totally possible.
Best of luck to you!

I agree with Tashry- you really need 2 sets of betas to determine if you are pregnant or if it is leftover hcg. But it is entirely possible to get pregnant after a mc with no af in between. I have done it twice.

Tashry & Amos, thank you for your replies. Can I ask how your next pregnancy turned out? I've already had 2 m/c's (but I do have a four-year-old with the same partner.) I've heard so many conflicting opinions about successful pregnancy statistics immediately following miscarriage. Thanks again for your positive words!

I got my labs back and HCG is at 132.5. I have no idea what that means right now but I guess we'll know more in a few days.

I MC'd late january, but my midwife is adamant i conceived 3 days after it happened, not too sure how as i was probably still bleeding and i wouldn't of had sex that soon anyway...but apparently i did, im nearly 14 weeks pregnant and everything is great.
Some people say getting pregnant just after a MC is good in a way as the uterus is more 'ready'.

Good luck :flower:

I miscarried and got my bfp 5 weeks later. but I tested to make sure I had a negative test first. good luck

Have no experience, but hope that the outcome is a healthy pregnancy with a healthy bean, good luck X

Hi californiamom,

Our stories are so similar, I discovered I had a mmc 9th April, and opted for medical management (tablets) to end the preg, this was started on 13th April, I was admitted to hospital on 15th April for the 2 pessiries (sorry spelling??). I was told I'd passed everything within a couple of hours.
I bled for 7 days then slight brown discharge for 2 days. We have dtd 5 times since.
Last week I thought I should test to see if my hcg had gone down, this was 15 days after passing everything, well it came up positive before I had finished peeing!. I went to my doc's the following day and got bloods tested. I tested again 2 days later and still a strong positive. I've just came off the phone from speaking to my docs and they said my hcg is really high but inconclusive so have to go in again tomorrow morning for more bloods.
I haven't got my hopes up as such, but reading some off your replies has brightened my day.
Thanks for starting this thread, I probably wont be the only one getting some answers from it.

Take care, and I really hope we both get our BFP's soon

xmagsx :hugs:

Thanks, ladies. I love hearing the positive stories and wish you all the best of luck with your new pregnancies. Anything is possible and it's truly inspiring.

The doctor just called me to deliver the HCG results (they get emailed to us as soon as they come in so I had known the number already.) She did say that it's conclusive to the HCG leaving my system but, since I had unprotected sex, she's going to order another one next week.

Maggs, our stories are very similar. Best of luck to you, sweetie!

sorry, ive not read the other posts but is there a possibilty that you could of been carrying twins and one has MC'd?

I got BFP just 6 weeks after my son was stillborn @ 36weeks. so i conceived just 4 weeks after his birth.

xxx

Hi, I miscarried in March and got my BFP in April with no AF inbetween so it can happen!
Still very early stages, my scan on Monday showed probably just over 5 weeks, so very cautious.

I hope you get your answers soon.

My next pregnancy turned out beautifully. I had my son who is now 3, he was born 4 months after my original due date with the baby I lost. I did have some bright red bleeding at 6 weeks that scared me more than I could possible explain, but I was sent for a scan that day and everything was just fine. Just one of those things that happen.

Possible to be pregnant 3 weeks after a MC, I am and this pregnancy has been just fine. Let us know how everything goes........ Fingers Crossed for you!
