Hi

I had a growth scan this morning which showed my lil mans belly was wayyyy above what it shud be and was off scale really, his head circ is fine and his femur is top of scale.

They gave me a blood test which came back fine but have got me booked in for a GTT next wednesday. I am 34+5 today yet im measuring 40 weeks!

Im not sure what is going to happen and would like to hear from others in simular situations or that have been...

They have told me that they will not let me go over my due date even if GD isnt present as he is too big but surely if im measuring 40 weeks now and babies belly is off scale he is going to be huuuge!

I have another scan in 3 weeks and another appointment (all this has been left til late as i had no blimmin MW due to a shortage)

Did any of you get induced early thru GD or go naturally early? xxx

Thanks in advance xxx

I've got GD, diagnosed at 29 weeks and my baby's tummy is measuring big (head and femur just above average), estimated weight at 35+4 was 6lbs 15oz. I'm being induced at 38 weeks because of the GD and estimated size. At first I really didn't want this but now I'm 2 weeks away from meeting my baby I can't wait!

Did they measure your amniotic fluid - increased fluid is another sign of GD.

Whatever the outcome try not to worry too much, you should be well looked after if my experience is anything to go by.

xxx

I am the same. i had the GTT and my levels came back at 7.8 (cut off was 7.7....). I have been told I wont go over my due date. I am measuring 3 weeks ahead. I have scans and consultsnt appts at the hospital every 2 weeks.

Try not to worry as they will keep an eye on you. All of my babies measurements are over the 95th centile.

Hello All,

I am prone to having BIGGG babies....
1st girl 10lbs 2oz
2nd girl 9lbs 3oz (born at 37 weeks)and both were born natural.
I had GD with the 2nd one but seems to me the 1st on too but they didn't catch it in time. I am 26 weeks and I went to get my 1hr GD test done and I know it's gonna come back that I have it again oh yea so much fun. My due date per doc is March 21st but with sono it's March 9th and my baby girl is measuring big and in the 90th % and she is breech.
I have never had a breech baby both my girls were head down the whole time and I am so freaked out cause they say if this little girl does not flip I will have to have a C-section and I am sooooo scared...

Thanks guys, its soo good to have people supporting you that have been through it or are going through it as they dont explain much to you at the time, they havent given me and Est weights but have said he is a very large baby, my fluid levels were normal but i have another scan on 4th Jan (was meant to be sooner but with xmas and new year grrr) i now see a consultant every 2 weeks to check progress..

Im not sure whether they will give me a c section or induce me or whether he will come on his own but the main thing is that he is healthy and well :D just a shame they didnt test me earlier! xxx

Hi hun, I had lots of scans because I had a high risk pregnancy but my baby measured big from about 28 weeks. She was always on the 98th centile with scans and she was born at 34+6 (what you are today!) weighing 6lb 5oz! I did not have GD and my tummy actually measured smaller (I used to have good tummy muscles...not anymore though!!)

It sounds like the hospital are looking after you well though xx

I know its scary, the consultant did say to me that he could come any day and that my bags need to be ready and at the door i was like ermmm really i thought i had another 5weeks but we will see :D sooo excited to meet him and i like the fact he is chubby as long as he is healthy. Did you have to stay in for long?

She sounds like she was measuring the same as my lil man well he is 97th centile but im measuring 40 weeks (my stomache muscles are rubbish tehe) xxx

Hi hun. I have big babies, have always been tested for GD, but never had it.

In my last (twin) pregnancy, the boys were over the 100th centile for singletons on tummy, head and leg measurements, so were understandabley predicted big. At 38wks they were 9 and 7Ibs 4, which is massive for twins, but all down to genetics and not GD.

It is often the case that babies are predicted big, but come out average sized - the scans are notoriously inaccurate. If your baby is bigger, it doesn't necessarily mean GD, nor does it mean you won't deliver easily or without complication.

I had a section for the twins because twin a was breech, and it was ok. You'll be fine hun - head size is the thing which made mine trickier to deliver vaginally - they all have massive heads , but they and I were ok in the end. You will be too xxx

Thanks Lizzie, its great to have positive news rather than the what are you going to do what are you going to do from family members LOL! im hoping to know more next week :D xxx
