Hi girls and ladies, I was just wondering if anybody else had experience of this complication.

so I went to my midwife for my 34 week appointment last week and casually mentioned to her that id been having some quite severe itching, especially on my hands and feet. She took a blood sample after informing me that this could possibly indicate a problem with bile salt levels in my liver. Triage at hospital phoned me back this morning to say that my levels are indeed raised, and i must go in at some time today to make a plan of what to do. Im only 35 weeks gone and im just a little worried i might have to have baby early or something....if anyone has any experience, advice or thoughts on this then id really apprecioate it. Thanks!!!! xxxxx

I didn't wnt to read and run but I haven't had any experience with this. Keep us posted on what they tell you. Is it similar to cholestasis during pregnancy? I hope you don't have to deliver early, :hugs:

I had this in my pregnancy if your bile acids are elevated and your. ALTs then it may be cholestasis.

They gave me steroids injections and put me on urso and vit k. Had weekly scans and was induced at 37 weeks and had a gorgeous baby boy. The itching eased once the tablets kicked in x pm me if u have any questions x

I am being tested for this as we speak - the obstetric cholestasis (sp?).

I get insanely itchy on my wrists (by my veins), the palms of my hands, and the worst: my ankles and my feet!! It makes me crazy! I am only 18 weeks, so I hope this doesn't add more complications to an already high-risk pregnancy.

Are your itchy spots characterized with little pin prick bumps, or even more hive-like bumps?

Good luck! Here's to some healthy babies!:flower:

Im itching like mad on my wrists, hands and feet and have just come out with itchy spots on my hands where I have been itching.. Its worse on a night time, I didnt know whether to mention it to the midwife when I go to my next appointment in 3 weeks or whether to book one earlier, the itching is steadily getting worse tho x

Yes! The night time is the worst! Sometimes, I wake up with scratches when I didn't know I was even itching! My bloodtests should have been back to my Dr by now, so hopefully no news is good news. Follow your instincts and see your midwife if you think its serious. Feel better!:flower:
