Birth Story.
Thursday morning I had my 4th membrane sweep, I went for a long walk and started getting contractions. Walked home and timed them, they were coming every 5/6/7 minutes and lasting for a minute. So I called the birth centre and went in to be checked and that's when they slowed down to every 10 mins lasting for 30 seconds. She checked to see if I was dilated any further than that morning and I wasn't, so she gave me my 5th sweep and said it may happen that night.
All evening I had irregular contractions that hurt but not enough, so I went to bed and they stopped. Got a nice sleep that night and woke up at 5:30am to a loud popping sound. I laid for a bit wondering if my waters had broken and then walked to the toilet.
When I wiped there was blood, not a lot but enough to concern me.
I called the labour number (which annoyingly is a call centre! You call them and they page the midwife to call you back.)
Midwife called me back and said it sounded like it might not be my waters and to wait for an hour and call back to update them.
Put the phone down at 6am and then at 6:05 had a crippling contraction that made me cry. They then started coming every 3-7minutes and lasting 1:30. I was crying, in agony and biting the cushion. Alfie was sat opposite me copying me by saying "owwwwww!" and laughing.
I then felt a change and demanded that I call the midwife again. This time she took 15 minutes to call me back. Got a call back at 6:50am and was told to come in to the main hospital.
I said no, I want to go to the birth centre (which is 10 minutes drive from my house), midwife said no because it doesn't open until 8am and they can't spare a midwife to get there earlier for me. But if I can hold on until 8am I can go there.
I said no, I NEED to come in now.
FIL turned up shortly afterwards and we drove to the main hospital. Annoyingly hit traffic just past the birth centre.
Got to hospital at 7:35am and I couldn't move away from the car. I was stood there screaming that the baby is coming right now! I could feel her head coming down and I was terrified.
Luckily two passing midwives saw me and grabbed a wheelchair and loaded me on. Rushed up to the maternity ward and they put me on a bed.
Gave me gas and air and confirmed the head is on its way down and to start pushing when I felt like I needed to. My waters then broke and she had pooed inside of me, usually that requires a transfer to the high risk ward but there was no time.
8:06am she was born, weighing 10lbs 2ozs.
I went into shock again due to the quick labour and because of an emergency elsewhere I wasn't stitched up for about an hour. So she wasn't fed until I was taken to the ward about 2.5 hours after she was born, but she didnt seem to mind. She was asleep on DH![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
We had to stay in for observations due to meconium in waters and also her high birth weight required blood sugar monitoring which was all fine![Smile :) :)](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
