i received my birthing ball today (yay! as well as my cot mattress, just thought id get that in lol) and ive been sitting on it for the last hour, and bouncing. however i then read that u shouldnt start bouncing on it until later on (im 29 weeks tomorrow) so when should i start to bounce? will the bouncing ive been doing for the last hour have done any harm?

thanks :)

I think they say about 34 weeks :). I should be bouncing everyday but I really can't be bothered lol.

Xx

You won't cause labour to start until baby is ready to come out. It'll just help with getting baby in the right position. If you are already at risk of preterm labour then I wouldn't, but if not then I think you're fine. I bounce on mine and I think it helped get baby head down, nothing else though.

I was also told 34 weeks by midwife.....didn't ask why. I just got my ball and started bouncing last week at 36 weeks.

I just started using mine at 36 weeks, I have a bounce, a sway and a rock... DH thinks it's the funniest thing ever. :D

Silly question but why do we bounce?? And is it used in labour? & what for? Lol

I started at 34 weeks! It helps the baby to get in the optimal position for birth and prepares that part of your body for birth (plus it's good for your back)

I sway from side to side, up and down, front and back, and do spirals in both directions, I also lean on it from time to time, there's tons of videos on youtube on how to use it, definitely watch them!!

I don't think it can trigger pre-term labor.

I don't " bounce" on mine , I swivel my hips around and around on it ..........

I did try it at home on last baby during early labour + hated it , did nuthing to help ( for me)

But I do like sitting on it watching tv etc

I've had an exercise ball since first trimester because I had terrible back pains. It really helped my back transition when my uterus moved up. I have zero back pains noww. I sit on it and bounce on it since because it helps my back. I wouldn worry about it causing early labor. As I said I been using an exercise ball since the beginning and have not had any issues. Plus I think its fun

At my 28 week appt yesterday my midwife told me to start using my ball every evening for about 30 mins. to encourage the baby into a head down position x

my husband would genuinely like to know if a space hopper would do the same job... i'm assuming yes!

my husband would also like to know this.... he desperatly wants to get it out the garage and dust it off LOL,

I have a big one but I'm tall. I asked at labor class because hers is tiny n she said you want a comfortable size you don't want to have trouble getting onto it

lol is that so they can have a shot???? :)

I have been bouncing and swaying on mine since i was about 20 weeks lol helps my back so do what every suits you xx

I've been on mine since day 1! Can't do any harm and I find it really comfy to watch the TV on! It also makes a nice foot rest ;) x

I find mine just comfy to sit on, doesn't feel like anything happens though

i used mine from second tri with my DD and caused her no harm it was the only palce i was comfy . It deffo didnt induce labour she was 1 week late lol

Just googled birthing ball sizes and compared that to the size of our ginat space hopper and our space hopper is bigger so therefore i am assuming as long as you can sit on it comfortably then it would be fine. I am going to ask DH to get ours out the garage later so i can give it a try :-)

couldnt hurt. Unless your like me and your balance is off and the first time you bounce you go flying off the back slippers thrown in differant directions, legs everywhere.
