Hi ladies, I wasn't sure where to post this, hopefully this is the right place!

Just wondered if any of you had any experience of the new birth centres at Blackburn or Burnley? Anyone been to look round them? I really like the idea of the birth centres and they sound really nice but I can't decide which to go for, are they both just the same inside? I know Burnley one is next to the hospital so no worrying about transfer times in case of a problem but then I guess they have procedures in place if you need transfer from Blackburn.

I know later on I'll be able to go and look round but just wondered if anyone had any opinions on them. Thanks :flower:

I think there was a thread on this a while ago, i'll have a look.

I remember because I used to live in Blackburn :flower:

Edited - i can't find it, after doing searches, doh! Hope somebody is along to help soon xxx

Oh great! My midwife said the Blackburn one was lovely, like a hotel, but she didn't work at Burnley so didn't know what that one was like. I'm leaning a bit towards Burnley as it's next to the hospital I believe if anything goes wrong.

My midwives work out of Blackburn so if I went to Burnley I'd probably not know the midwives but I guess that doesn't matter :)

It's OK Hollie, I had a quick search too but didn't see anything!

i had to move to where the doctors were as lo got stuck on my coycx bone and it was making his heart rate drop and they were amazing i had 2 midwifes who never left me the head doctor and two pead doctors in the room waiting for lo to born they had to buzz for the head pead and he came running down as los blood sugar was lo he got there in like a minute and this was middle of sunday night i cant recomend them enough i get really bad panic acttacks and they were all so lovely and made me feel calm x

my midwife was on shift but she didnt deliver my baby so i dont think it matters about not knowing them as your not gaurentted to get your midwofe anyway

if theres a emergencey you would have t transfer from blackburn to burnley thats why i chosse burnley x

that sounds excellent. I agree, the 30 mins or so transfer time from Blackburn is what made me think Burnley might be the better choice, just for peace of mind! I'm in Clitheroe so both are about the same distance away.

It's probably going to be Burnley then. :) They have pools available don't they? I'm not sure yet but quite like the idea of labouring in a pool.

This is will be my first time in the new birthing center at Burnley so not looked around yet

Im up there for my 20wk scan on the 30th so will ask when im looking around and can let you know :happydance:

i was offered a pool when i went and i know my friend was to so i think its the same as most places if theres one available they will offer you one x

Thanks ladies, really helpful! can't wait to have a look around the birth centre, sounds really nice! x

I will hopefully give birth in burnley. I went on a tour a couple of weeks back and its really reassure me that the main delivery suite is next door. The midwives seem really nice and showed us how close the theatres are if a complication was to occur. She even showed us where the anaestethist would be. So everything is close by. The birthing pool is really big and they even had there own cd player so you can play music. Fingers crossed everything goes to plan

it sounds really good Quackquack! Hope you manage to give birth there

I'm hoping to give birth in the blackburn birthing centre, OH is a bit worried with it not being hospital, as Riley had the cord round his neck twice, and needed a little help with breathing, but i spoke to the midwife about it last week and explained his worries, she says the midwifes are all trained for things like this and things aren't a problem, and if there was going to be a problem, they'd transfer you, but they know what they are doing, so hopefuly we'll have a look around and OH will be able to speak to them and hopefuly put his mind at rest, if not, then the Burnley birthing centre will be a compramise i suppose, as I don't want OH to be happy as well as me, but hopefuly, his mind will be put at rest when we visit :)

Thanks shortie! If you remember would you mind posting on this thread when youve been and let us know what its like? :) I do have the same worries so reassurance would be great! x

Yeh course :flower: the Midwife was really reassuring when I spoke to her, so I'm really excited to take OH so he can be reassured too, the whole atmosphere and attitudes around it seem so much calmer, and you can have as many people there whole you give birth (if you want lol) and partners can help themselves to coffe/tea, which hopefully will win my OH over, he was gutted when I kept declining coffee because I dont drink it, didn't think about him drinking it :haha:

Hi, I'm new to the forum but my midwife told me about the Burnley birth centre so I thought it was useful info to share. The one at Burnley is next to the birthing unit, literally through some double doors so you're right there if you have any difficulties during labour. You can have a look around the birth centre on Saturdays at 2pm or Wednesdays at 7pm. No need to book, you just turn up apparently.

hi ive not looked around either as had my toddler at home before bburn shut, but want to go to burnley this time due to transfer time. mws have tried to convince me to go to birth centres or home again by saying there is no difference between a home birth in bburn and birth centre! erm exactly!
