Bleeding after cervix check

I posted recently about having my cervix checked for effacement and dilation at my 36 week appointment on Friday afternoon (it is now late Sunday night). The cervix apparently was really far back and the doc exclaimed "Oops, I made you bleed!" She said I was bleeding quite a bit but it was fine, just from irritation to the outside of the cervix, and I could expect it to turn to brown or pink the next day. This was a lot of blood, like a medium flow day of your period.

The next day it did indeed turn to brown and was more spotting where a pantyliner would've been enough.

Today it was the same, except maybe a little more, but still just spotting....well I went and walked around a store for about an hour or so and then the flow increased quite a bit!

It is clearly old blood. Brown, not red, and you can wipe it off the surface of a pad (doesn't soak into the pad like red liquidy blood does). It's exactly like the end of a period.

Would you guys worry? I called the doctor on call and asked and she said it sounded fine, just like some old blood was trapped in there and is now working its way out. That feels right to me but I'm still nervous. It also has a slight smell to it, not like a period, but like something else. So I am worried what if there's a uterine infection? The doc on call said that my waters are intact and I'm having no symptoms so there was no concern about that.

I don't know what to think.

If it was me I'd be going to labour and delivery and insisting that they check me out. It's always better to err on the side of caution.

Hmm, I'm like the definition of someone who overreacts, but I don't know, does everyone agree with this? It really seems like the blood is brown and old and wouldn't it be red if it were a continuing issue?

I guess I also don't know what kind of check they would do there, either. I've gone there twice due to worries and both times they just did a nonstress test.

I had bleeding at 27 weeks, they checked my cervix and said it was very 'soft' who knows what that actually meant!?
I bled a lot more after the exam and terr was blood on the speculum so I suppose it can be normal.
However, it says on nhs website If you have bleeding after 37 weeks to ring Labour ward x

I did, and the doctor like I said told me it was fine, that obviously we knew when the bleeding happened and why, and that the blood being brown meant it was just the old blood from that working its way out. I just wish it had gone away by now.

I had a brown blob of my mucus plug come out that night and the next morning. After that, I didn't have anything else. Since it is brown, I wouldn't worry too much especially if lo is still moving as normal and everything else feels fine (no cramping etc). The sheet my doctor gave me said some bleeding is normal after the check, but if it keeps up after a few days, I would ask to go back to the dr.

If it is brown it is fine. I have had my cervix checked twice and I spotted for a few days after both. She warned me when she checked me the first time that spotting is very likely after a cervix check. As long as the blood is brown and is slowing down it is nothing to worry about. If the flow was getting heavier and the blood was bright red, that would be worrisome, but it sounds like the same thing I dealt with both times.

See this is what confuses me. It's now Monday (exam was Friday) and I'm still getting "brown sludge" like the end of a period. Not liquid at all, and brown, not red. I called again just now and talked to a different midwife and she said the same as the first, that it's old blood and not fresh bleeding and since baby is moving I don't need to come in. But...it's been three days almost! This is hour 71!

Like three days though? How much spotting? I don't have much on my pad but definitely brown clotty sludge when I wipe.

Hey Beagleowner. I would agree with the other posts that if baby is still moving ok and the blood is brown it is most likely just fine. But if it doesn't stop after another couple days I would maybe call again and insist to be seen as some bleeding from irritation is normal but bleeding for a while might not be. Plus just for peace of mind.

I'm just like you as far as worrying but I think everything is ok. Just continue to keep an eye on it.

Thanks...I have an appointment tomorrow anyway so hopefully we'll see then. By the way, I feel like you are my bump buddy as our due dates are so close and we have both fretted about swelling!
