Hi guys

I'm new here having just found out about 10 days ago that's i'm pregnant after trying for about 6 months. Over the weekend I was experiencing stomach cramps and brown blood - after reading lots of different advice on the internet I went to the Drs on Monday night. They did a scan but as I'm only about 6 weeks it wasn't very clear. They could see something but the Drs said he would 'expect more fluid around the embryo at this stage'. I'm going for a blood test today to measure my HcG levels (?) to see if they've gone up or are going down. He didn't seem too hopeful.

I haven't told anyone except Hubby that i'm pregnant so i just really needed to get this out of my system and was wondering if anyone had been through anything similar or knows anything about fluid around the embryo and whether this means there will be a problem.

Thanks for listening xx

Hi Lottie

I can sympathise with how worried you are as I went through very similar 6 years ago which did end in a miscarriage BUT I had red blood which continued for several weeks and from what I understand brown blood for a couple of days isn't such a concern... Has the blood and cramping stopped now?

I know you're scared of what might be happening but its important that you understand that you have no control over this - as in lying in bed and doing nothing will not stop the inevitable happening if its meant to.... Try and keep busy (nothing strenuous though) and put it to the back of your mind - I didn't and it near sent me and my husband round the bend... I was obsessing terribly and trying to find every similar symptom to explain what was happening which ended in my emotions doing a roller coaster as one person would say they bled all through their pregnancy and the other would say theirs ended in miscarriage.... Everybody's situation is different, similar maybe, but different...!

I don't know about the fluid bit so am unable to shed any light on that and I should think that the Drs attitude was one of not wishing to raise or lower hope as its difficult for him to say so early in a pregnancy.. What I can say is that if you're HCG levels come back ok they may well offer you a scan at 7wks which would show a heart beat to reassure you further - so try and have a realistic head on for the timebeing and do please keep us posted on whatever happens as you will find tremendous support here for whichever path your pregnancy takes....

Chin up sweet - we're here for you if you need us xxx

Thanks Knonie, Yes the bleeding has stopped and i'm just getting light cramping now.

Thanks for your thoughts- you are completely right i need to stop worrying about it. it's just the not knowing for sure that's making it hard as I can't focus on the next steps whatever that might be.

Hopefully i'll have some answers soon.

Thanks again xx

You're welcome honey!!

Its such a scary time without all these added concerns isn't it??!! The cramping is fine lots of us pregnant ladies get those and the brown blood could have been your little bean bedding in and getting truely comfy rather than the worst..

When do you get your results back?

I had brown spotting for a couple of days at 6 weeks, had a scan at 7 weeks and saw the little heart beat :)

:hugs: to you.

The way I thought it went was if its brown then its old blood, but bright red might be more of a concern. Cramps and bleeding doesnt necessarily mean miscarriage, so all you can do is stay calm and hope that you get a more conclusive result when you go back.#

All the best, got my fingers crossed for you. x

hi ladies

Thanks so much for your concern - I'm really touched and sorry I haven't been able to get online sooner.

We went to the Drs yesterday and the HCG levels have risen really well - they said i was about 6 1/2 weeks (I thought i was about 5 1/2). Dr was brilliant and referred me to EPU for reassurance but said he thought it was fine. We were hanging around for ages at EPU but had a scan. The nurse wasn't very friendly at all but said she could see a sack and yolk but no heartbeat. She didn't really reassure us but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing? She said that she thought i was about 5-5 1/2 weeks. She did tell me 'not to give up hope'. She said there was 'no point' doing an internal scan.

We saw the Dr at the EPU after who examined me and said he could see any bleeding and all looked ok. He said the pain was probably just my uterus stretching but has made an appointment for another scan in 2 weeks just to check. He was suprised the nurse didn't do an internal scan though. He did say that had he seen me before the scan he wouldn't have bothered sending me for one.

Overall i'm feeling quite positive. I think it means that the bleeding is ok and i should now just think of it as a 'normal' pregnancy and whilst obviously it's still really early and things can go wrong, there's not any more chance of that than any other pregnancy at the moment (if that makes sense).

Just fingers crossed that in a couple of weeks we see a heartbeat - but i understand from reading things on here that sometimes it can be quite late before you see a heart beat?

Anyway - sorry for the epic response and thanks again for your concern xxx
