Blighted ovum or not blighted ovum so confused!!

Hi all am a newbie was directed here for some advice and even just a chat.
Me and my husband decided to start TTC in october.
My LMP was december 1st.
Had a positive ovulation on december 22nd.
Got my BFP on January 1st.
Went for an early scan on sunday at a private scan place paid for by my mum and when they did the scan they said oh the sack is empty and kind off shuffled us out of the door no info no nothing i personally now think that maybe they are just con artists!!!
Went to my docs on monday for bloods done had 2 lots done 48 hours apart and both times the hcg levels were around 28000 they hadnt gone down like is normally expected in a misscariage but they hadnt gone up like they should be.He said not to worry and he said i have no reason to believe i am miscarrying have had no bleeding or any other symptoms of a miscarriage.
Have now got to wait until tuesday for a scan at the hospital which should say more then but i think i am only just over 6 weeks pregnant which is why i prob didnt show much on the scan,the dr was very annoyed that this place didnt even offer to do an internal scan.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated

It would still be very early to see a heartbeat, it's a good sign that they saw the sac - hope you get some good news on tuesday x

Hi im sorry you have to go through all this uncertainty..i cannot believe they didnt offer a vaginal scan..as it says below..thought i'd add it in case, as you said you didnt get any info..

A large empty sac on the scan is a sign of a "blighted ovum", where conception occurred and the fertilised egg implanted in your womb but the baby did not develop. A blighted ovum can happen to anyone. It usually happens accidentally, and most women go on to have a successful pregnancy next time.

You may not have any signs at all (such as pain or bleeding) that the pregnancy is not progressing normally. The pregnancy hormones in your system make you feel pregnant, though sometimes if the levels are quite low the signs of pregnancy may lessen - for instance your breasts may feel less tender. Often the first time you are aware anything is wrong is when you have your first scan and are told that the sac is empty.

Although the causes aren't fully understood, a blighted ovum is generally considered to be an accident of nature. When an egg is fertilised by a sperm, the cells begin dividing. Some cells develop into the baby, and others develop into the placenta and membranes. Sometimes the part of the fertilised egg that is to become the baby fails, (probably because a mistake has occurred during fertilisation, and there are too many or too few chromosomes) but the part that is to become the placenta and membranes is successful, so the pregnancy sac continues to grow inside the womb, and the placenta starts to form.

Your body doesn’t recognise that there is no baby developing inside the sac, because pregnancy hormones are still being produced which prevent a miscarriage.

During the scan, the sonographer measures the pregnancy sac and look for evidence of a yolk sac or an embryo. If the pregnancy sac measures more than 20mm, with no evidence of a yolk sac or embryo, then a diagnosis of blighted ovum will be made. The entire amniotic sac must be examined using vaginal ultrasound before the diagnosis can be confirmed. If the diameter of the pregnancy sac is less than 20mm, your pregnancy may just be less advanced than you thought, and you will be offered another scan after 7-14 days. If there is still no sign of a yolk sac or embryo after this time, the diagnosis will be confirmed.

hey Hun, contrary to last post, I did bleed before discovering a blighted ovum. Aren't you more than six weeks if your bfp was the 1st though???

Same thing happened to me babybuffy, but when the EPU scanned me again there was a fetal pole & yolk sac, I was definitely misdiagnosed with a BO.

Mine's not 'viable' as yet as they haven't found a heartbeat so still might be a MMC, but I'm going to remain positive as I still have a hope
