Me again- with yet another worry!!!!!!!

This morning when I went to the loo I had red blood with a clot in it- I don't think my hubby has ever heard me scream so loud!
I have had some brownish blood for the last 2 days- which I thought was old blood from the pap smear I had on Thursday along with my early scan, but golly- did it scare the life out of me.

We went to A&E this morning, which we both sat in the waiting area crying. They sent me to emergancy gynae and low and behold there was the doctor who had performed the very painful pap smear.

To cut along story short they clamped me again (sounds like i'm a car!!!) and it really didn't hurt as much. I started bleeding pretty heavy again and they established that my cervix was closed and the blood was coming from the crevical ectropion I have, which is external to where peanut is. The Doctor also admitted that it was becuase she had damaged it on thursday.

They are still sending me for a scan Monday morning just to make sure- but it is a good sign that the cervix was closed.
Apperently cervical ectropions get worse in pregnancy, so I may bleed all through it.
Anyone else heard of these ectropions? I was told I had one years ago and it is quite common in girls who are on the contraceptive pill.

Hi Donna

Sorry but I have not heard of this but I do hope that you are okay lovely xx

I havent heard of them. Hope you're ok hun. xx

I've just been reading in my pregnancy books that it is just tissue that should grow inside the cerix can be found on the external side. Apparently nothing to worry about, just can bleed when touched- which figures!

Thanks!!!

I also have a cervical ectropion (have had it off and on for years). I am not even allowed to be intimate with hubby for 4 more weeks because any touching of the cervix causes me to bleed (like i have been cut with a knife or something). The last time I had such a bad ectropion, I had to have a cryosurgery done (freeze the cervix), but I was not pg at the time. when you are pg, you just have to be gentle to the area, and sometimes antibiotics help reduce the sensitivity. Good luck. It is so hard not to worry that something has happened to baby. I am in the same situation right now. I had serious bleeding after dh and I were intimate a few weeks ago. I was sure I miscarried. When I went to the dr. for my first appt, she said that I still tested positive and my cervix was closed so it was from the ectropion. I have to wait 3 more weeks before I get a scan to confirm that I haven't lost little bean. I hope everything goes well for you. Keep positive. Oh yeah, I had this prob. with all my pgs, and I have 4 kids to show for it, so don't worry too much.:winkwink:

Thank you pocohontas,
I went for the 2nd scan yesterday, little peanut is fine. As everything was ok I only got to speak to a nurse afterwards, not the Doctor who had said about the ectropion and my cervix being closed. The nurse didn't know what an ectropion was, so kept saying I was having a "threatend miscarriage".
As you can prob guess I am a bit of a worrier, but I really now believe that this blood is caused by the ectropion, not the baby. However if it gets worse then I will go back.
I spoke to my own GP this morning as he had recommended last year that I could get it removed as it was causing a discharge- I have endometriosis and he believed I got it from all the hormone therapy I had been on, so I decided against the procedure as I knew we would be trying for a baby and hopefully it would go once I stop the hormones. He said that he too believes it's the ectropion, but just monitor it.

We haven't been fully intimate since we got our positive result, but that's more through fear of causing a MC (silly I know!) But now we def won't be. I didn't start bleeding until they did the internal, so I suppose I am lucky enough that it hasn't affected our sex life too much before.

Thank you for you words and advice, no -one I have spoke to have heard of it and it made me feel like a freak!!! Good luck with your Scan, let me know how you get on.

It's not silly. We havent since we got ou BFP - my OH is too nervous of mc and so he wants to wait until after 12 weeks.

not heard of this myself but i know what its like to see blood i shit myself, and the waiting is the worst bit

Don't ever think you are over-reacting when it comes to your health or that of your baby - you have the right to be concerned :hugs:. However, what you have been told is probably right. They can be external and bleed like crazy throughout your pregnancy. I am sure you will be just fine :)
