Well I went to the doctors on Friday as we havent had any success still TTC and wanted to get the ball rolling so to speak with a FS. The doc is going to check my dh sperm and also sending me for all sorts of the usual blood tests, but I thought I would need them on either cd 2 or 3 but she said it really doesnt matter when I have them as long as it is around my period and I have my 2nd set on cd 21.

Have any of you been told it doesnt matter which day you have them??

Also as I have really long cycles I dont usually O until between cd25 and 40, so cd21 test us going to show that i dont O, but she said that is when i had to have it, it just doesnt make sense to me!

Have i just got a crap doctor????

Possibly my dr insited i had cd21 tests on the wrong day, can u ask to see another? :hugs:

You should have a 2 bloods test. One on day 1-4 of your cycle for some of the hormones as they should be during your period, day 2-3 are best. Then the other test (progesterone) should be 7 days after you ovulate. For me I had that test for progesterone on day 23 as my cycle is 30 days. Its no good having it done on day 21 if you haven't even ovulated surely. I would check with them if i was you.

I am only a little bit further on than you, my GPs managed to spell my name wrong on the first tests so am having that done again tomorrow and my first post coitel was too early.

Good luck with it all

Hi, when I first went to my GP he requested I had a blood test and too told me it did not matter when - he was checking for thyroid problems which can affect conception, he also referred me to the FS who then sent out a request to have CD2 and CD19 blood tests. FS also requested cervical smear, FS requested these test before sending out an appointment to see him - I’ve got my first FS appointment on Thursday - maybe they do the tests in a certain way dependent on the procedure for the area you live? :hugs:

Hello all. I've just been for my GP for bloods too. Basically there are usually a few different tests:

- some are things like glucose and thyroid function which are unrelated to your cycles and can be taken at any time
- FSH and LH. Best time is CD2-3 but if they are taken later in the cycle and come back normal then thats ok too. If they are done later in the cycle and come back high, then they would have to be repeated CD 2-3 (so getting you to do them all at once with progesterone, is saving you a needle, unless they are abnormal in which case you'd have to have another anyway)
- progesterone. this can only be useful if its taken 7(ish) days after ov. If you are long and irregular, you can either 'guess' but be prepared to have it done a few times over a few cycles to catch the right time. Or take your temp for that cycle and know exaclty when ov is to time it properly. Taking it any other time is pointless.

Good luck

Thank you for you replys, you have really put me at ease. I thought I was going to have blood tests and everything be a total waste of time, I have decided to cancel my blood test for Tues and rebook for Fri which will be about cd 3 of my cycle. As for the cd 21 I will have them done then and then phone the docs when I know I have O to get them done again.

My dh is RAF so although we live in Germany I am seen by the British military docs if that makes sense and then treated like a private patient in Germany so appt for FS will be through in 4 weeks from request and I was told we would request that at the start of Jan when all blood and sperm test results are back. I am feeling so nervous but very excited that we have started down the medical route, it is making me feel like I have a chance of getting that :bfp: (but i understand that could still take a long time).

I have very long cycles, and hadnt had a period for 4 months when I went to see the Dr. As I wasnt sure when I would ovulate/have AF, I had the blood tests asap. My Dr didnt seem to think it would matter (my blood test results all came back normal)

Good luck!
