What is the reason for only using water that has been boiled once and left no longer than 30mins?

I am finding myself constantly throwing away water and re-boiling, even if I last boiled fresh water 45mins ago for a coffee.

Is there any harm in reboiling water and using that to make up a bottle?

Can I use fresh boiled water that has been left in the kettle for longer than 30mins?

What do you do? Thanks :flower:

I'm not sure about re boiling but i use water thats in the kettle more than 30 mins. I think you're not meant to use the water before 30 mins as it would 'burn' the milk.

The way i do it is sterilise enough bottles for the day and boil the kettle. Leave for 30 mins. Pour water into bottles - Sid has 6 oz bottles atm but i only pour 4 ozs in the bottles. Then when he gets hungry i boil the kettle and add the 2 ozs, add the milk and then its just the right temperature. Does that make sense?

HTH x

Thanks pink - that is how I am making bottles too.

Sometimes he eats every couple of hours, so between that and hot drinks, the kettle is always on the boil.

I put the boiling water in the bottles straight away and then fridge them and i also reboil water already in my kettle that has been boiled. didnt no either of them things where wrong.8 weeks later and so far we are fine. My mum did it this way as well and im fine. I also make up 4oz and then add extra 2 oz when she is ready so its right temp

Hope this old post helps?

You can't use reboiled water because the more you boil it the more you concentrate the minerals that are in it. If you use reboiled the mineral levels can be too high for baby xx

I'm sure I've used reboiled water a few times and Evie's always been ok :) I usually just stick the kettle on while the steriliser is on the go and ban everyone from the kitchen till her bottles are all done!

sb22, thanks for that link, it was interesting  I didnt know we werent supposed to have filters in our kettles for boiling water for bottles either! And as for the build up of limescale.. well I live in NW London and our water is rock hard. You get limescale build up during the first boil in a new kettle !!(believe me, I know this!)
We went to Wales last week and the water there is sooo much softer, in that there was no limescale in the kettle during the entire week we were there! Evie seemed to drink more of her bottles too, so maybe she preferred the taste of the softer water

Sorry, dwindling slightly OT there...

I think with every baby ive had, the way to make bottles has changed!

John makes them now. He boils the kettle, adds the waters and then we add the powder when needed.

And we have used reboiled water from time to time xx

I think this is technically true. However, I'm sure you'd have to reboil several times before it really makes a huge difference. Water throughout the country is different anyway so the minerals our babies get will differ dependent on where we live anyway.

I use freshly boiled water as a matter of course but on the odd occasion when I've accidentally re-boiled it, I'm sure it's not a problem!

ever had a cup of tea that you've made with re-boiled water and thought it tasted funny? i suspect it's a similar thing but couldn't say why exactly :)

thats why i thought u couldnt reboil aswell:haha:. tea tastes really burnt and nasty after reboiling the kettle more than once, so i thought her milk would 2 :haha:

you cannot use water cooled for more than 30mins because this is what sterilises the powder! as soon as you open the box, it is not sterile.
