Booking unborn (and unnamed!) baby onto Easyjet flight?

I wanted to be sufficient and book our flights for Christmas today, but Easyjet asks for the baby's name as it appears on his passport? He is due in October and we haven't decided on his name yet (and won't till we see him).

Does anyone know how to get round this? We obviously can't wait till he is born to book the tickets as they will be too expensive then...

Will call their customer care line tomorrow when they are open, but was hoping someone would know the answer?

Hiya, I don't think you can without a name. I work within the industry and have never heard of an airline doing this before.

They may offer to hold a seat/space for you but that might only be for a few days. The only other option is making a name up and then paying for a name change on the ticket once you know the babies name. (will cost anywhere between £20-£100 depending on airline and type of ticket purchased).

So when you speak to them ask if you can name change the ticket for a fee, you need to check this as some tickets cannot be change full stop.

hope that helps! (and if they do, do it let me know as that would be good to know!)

I have no idea, so i cant help.. but i can imagine that you could add babys details when you know them? but like 'reserve' the ticket with yours to add details when you know them.. ?

Could you not just book the seat in someone elses name until the baby arrives, then pay to change it over? This happened with my friend who was waiting for her passport to come through. Her mum just booked the seat using another name and my friend paid to change it when her passport arrives. Its usually £30 each way for a name change.

Hmm... Yeah, I'll give them a call tomorrow and ask them.

Otherwise I might just put one of the names we are thinking of using and then change it if that doesn't end up being his name (will check rules on this tomorrow too, but I think it's 'only' £35 to change the name online.... could be worse I guess!)

Thanks though. x

I thought you didn't need to pay for a seat for baby if they were still small enough to be held during the flight.

Chezzz: Yeah maybe... That would be great! Will find out tomorrow I guess.

lauren_88: Yeah that would be my other idea, although you're right: it's probably 35 quid each way, which is a lot.... :/

charlie_lael : Yeah that's what I thought, but I haven't booked a seat, just added an 'infant' to sit on my lap, and still they ask for his name.... weird...

You don't but they still need a ticket and valid passport. You can only have so many babies on a plane due to the extra oxygen (if needed if the plane had problems and lots pressure) so they have to know. plus for security.... You could turn up with a baby that is not yours if you know what I mean.

Interesting for mums to be of twins, if you book a flight where you plan to sit them on your knee ( and not buy a full seat)you and your other half won't be able to sit next to each other as the extra oxygen is only 1 per row or 1 per every other row.

Oh ok. That makes sense then. But how do they expect you to get a passport for baby that fast?

We've booked plane seats to go to our wedding next year without the babys name confirmed... They just booked her in as TBA and just asked us to confirm at birth.

That was with thompsons... Dunno if that helps...

Fast track only takes 2 weeks

Lol good question... I think they don't expect you Togo that soon that you woudbo be able to get one? @liloopsy that is interesting (from my work perspective lol... Good to know they do it)

Isn't there a limit on how young a baby you can take on a flight, too? Think I saw it on that easy jet program, someone got annoyed because their baby was overdue and was too young to travel by a day or two!

Edit: baby needs to be at least 15 days old, guess that just gives you enough time to fast track a passport!

I booked my unborn son on a monarch flight, he was booked as tbc as first name and the surname and then I had to call to add his name once here.

This is interesting as I would like to book flights early for next year may as it's long haul and want to pay for it now before money runs out on maternity leave. I think we will fly with Virgin so will need to see if I can list bubs as TBC or if we will need to wait to book the flights.

I'm flying with easyjet when I'm 33/4 weeks and their customer services were really helpful regarding some questions I had so maybe just telephone them and see what they recommend/suggest regarding this issue. x

Hi sorry gatecrashing. We had the same when I was pregnant, my dad lives in Canada and with prices changing so much booked our flights early. We are flying BA and we had to book our seats then ring back when Laeyla was born to give her details. We had to pay £109ish to do this as although babies do not get charged for a seat they are still subject to airport taxes. On a brighter note as we have an infant we are automatically given seats at the front of a row, although not all airlines do this, we flew with dd1 to Canada and we had to pay for these - Thomas Cook. Also another thing to check is can you take pushchair to the gate, does the baby get luggage allowence and if you can take car seat as not all airlines allow these things. Another thing to think about if your FF the bottles are also restricted so we brought cartons after security - sorry went off on a bit of a tangent but these are things I never thought of until about 2 days before we flew! xx

We've booked our honeymoon flights next year and bub is simply listed as "Infant Surname" for now and we have to confirm once they are born!

The only thing we got told is that we can't do any booking on the internet we have to speak to someone to get this done!

Same here, you have to spk to an operator and for us she put 'master' then our surname which I thought was an omen, however we having a girl. When the baby is born we have to call back and give them her details, that was with jet 2
