Is it really a must?

I keep hearing about how people just couldn't have lived without their boppy and I'm wondering if I should get one.

They're not cheap tho £30 on amazon for a pillow?!?! Is it really worth it?

Help! I'm trying to plan my hospital bag and am freaking out, I know I still have a while but I have severe SPD so I have to do what I can when I can.

I'm a FTM so really have no clue but everyone has been saying the same thing to me! I was given a used one from a coworker and I plan on buying a new cover for it that i found on Etsy. I bet you could find one at a secondhand store for cheap or see if anyone wants to get rid of an old one and replace the cover.

I don't think Boppy are necessary.

My breastfeeding consultant said if you wanted to use a pillow for breast feeding then a normal firm breastfeeding one is fine.

If you look on Youtube, there's a lot of moms that tell you don't buy a boppy

Personally I loved mine, and I used for things other than nursing as well. I mean, you can live without it, but I would rank it with one of the "must have" items.

You can search for a free promo code for NursingPillow.com. They are normally $40, all you have to do is pay the $12 shipping. I actually posted a thread on here asking for feedback on the quality of these the other day, and with some extra research I went ahead and ordered one. It should be here this week. I couldn't bring myself to spend that much $$ on a real Boppy so I'm hoping this one does the trick!

For breastfeeding the boppy pillow and the nursing pillow.com one are crap, they Arnt big enough to help support your arms . Only thing I found them good for was for going around baby when he was learning to sit up .

I have a large L shaped nursing pillow my mom made , it's same as the jolly jumper boomerang nursing pillow and it's way better . It's big enough to actually provide arm support and the shape works better for supporting different positions .

I do have a great big maternity pillow that's me a giant horseshoe, it's so comfy I love it I was wondering if I could use that but it might be to big to go around me to nurse.

I've tried two pillows in the past: the Leachco Natural Boost (borrowed from a friend) and the Leachco Cuddle-U nursing pillow. I felt that the Boost was too bulky for me and ended up ordering the cuddle-u and really enjoyed it. I took it to the hospital with me (c-section mama because our small-town hospital won't do vbacs), and it was invaluable after surgery! I have bought another one for this baby.

I would see if you know some mamas who could let you borrow theirs because it really is a matter of preference.

Ive got a boppy pillow which i got from the car boot for £4 when my son was small and i also have a big V pillow, i'd say the V pillow is MUCH better for breastfeeding to help support and definately a must have. The boppy is not as good for breastfeeding as it's pretty small in comparison however they are really good when baby is in the in between stage of sitting up/falling over to support baby :)

I didn't take mine to the hospital but i have thoroughly enjoyed having it here at home.

When I went on my hospital tour the tour guide (who is also the lactation specialist) told us specifically not to bring the boppy pillows and to bring a smaller pillow instead. Can't remember why though...

For me, a boppy was a waste of money. It was a gift but I'm plus size (us size 18) and it didn't fit around my waist. I bought a two in one sealy sweat pea pregnancy/nursing pillow and it has been great so far and sits where I would want it to sit for nursing. It also has a special contour in the pillow for baby's bottom to sit a few inches lower than head to prevent rolling.

I just used a long ikea pillow which was navy with mad flowers on it, I think it cost me all of £5.. it was fine or just a normal pillow from around the house...

I hated the boppy...it has no support. The one called my brest friend, is great. It ties around your waist and is firm but comfortable. Can use it easily in any position.

I loved my Boppy with DD, however, I didn't BF. I used it to recline her on for feedings and then for tummy time as she got a bit bigger. Like PP said, you can get them used for around $10 here. I just bought a Boppy 5 in 1 for $15 last week that's in near-perfect condition. A must-have? For me, it is, but the other ladies would know better how it works for BFing.

if you're planning on breastfeeding, i would highly recommend it! My first had a really hard time latching on in the hospital (i forgot to bring my boppy) and i'd have to stack normal pillows and try to get him into the correct position. Once i got home things got so much easier (at least getting him in the correct position), and i could focus on correct latch

im definitely getting one because when i had my son i only breast feed for 3 days but my back killed from holding him to feed him. this time im planning on breast feeding as long as i can so I'm going to make sure i have one!

We really haven't used ours all that much. I do use them for pictures to prop them up but they always slide down after a few minutes so I can't really leave them with one.

I didn't like using the boppy or the brest friend with my firstborn. I'm short and have a very short torso and smaller breasts and for some reason i could never get the baby in the correct position with the boppy -- like he was always too high or something. And he also had minor reflux so i had to feed him at an angle and the brest friend was not good for that. I much preferred using a regular lumbar pillow under my elbow and that's it. My best friend who is 5'9", long torso and huge boobs also dislikes her boppy and says she can't seem to get her baby in the right position either. On the flip side, my sister loved hers.

Sooo.....all this to say, if you're able to try one out or borrow one first, that's your best bet!

I had been told by lots of people as well that the boppy was a must, but, I wasn't keen on the cost, as many others have said.

BUT I was giving a handy tip that I decided to take advantage of - while I haven't had my baby yet so I can't attest to how it works I can let you all know what I did - Take the 10$ boppy cover and go to your local fabric/craft store and pick up a bag of filling [foam filling is what I used] typically under 10$ [mine was 6$]. Take your cover and stuff it with as much, or as little, filling as you want! It's really nice that you can customize it to what works for you. Total cost - $16-20!

The only downer I can think of, though, is it's going to be nearly impossible to wash the cover without a mess, you would have to scoop out all the filling into a bag or something then wash, then re-fill... So we'll see if it works out here soon enough.

if the cost is the worry stick it on your registry! thats what i did! maybe someone will get it for you as a gift
