Has anyone else had day 21 blood tests that didnt confirm ovulation?

On my day 21 for both cycle 1 (24.7?)* and cycle 2 (17.2?)* the doctor who analysed the results said borderline ovulation action (i may have/ may not have!). I assumed that i did ovulate in the first cycle as my temps & CM indicated that i did & i did not have periods before clomid and i got one on my first cycle! I got my AF on CD24 last month I am awaiting my AF from my second cycle and am on CD27. I've got a feeling that I havent Ov this cycle as my CM has been weird (I had it after the temp shift and after i thought i'd ovulated!) and the BT result seems to be alot lower than the first month - i have had a temp shift tho (and was still high today)....not sure if my temp charting and CM is a red herring! Is it possible to have these signs without ovulating?!

Im a bit confused...Im going to the doctors on Thurs, im not sure what they will do though? Does it sound like my dose of clomid needs to be upped from 50mg to 100mg? I thought the drug was supposed to give clear indication of ovulation, ive never had a positive opk either!

Thanks!

* not sure what the measurements are out of!?

I had cycle day 21 blood test and my result was 10.1, which the doctor confirmed ovulation. I thought it was a bit low but I guess as long as it is above 10. I would have thought 24 and 17 confirms ovulation. Now I am confused.

The figures in US and the UK are different.
In the UK they like to see a 20+ on a natural cycle and a 30+ on a clomid cycle
In the US they like to see a 10+ on a natural cycle and a 15+ on a clomid cycle.

So the numbers are different, but they seem to just be doubled in the UK.
In the US, any number above a 3 actually confirms ovulation, they just know historically that women who had a 10+ were much more likely to get pregnant.

Here's the other thing... the bloodwork has to be done at 7dpo, not always CD21. I don't usually O at CD14 so I've had to get my bloodwork done at different times.

I've still had low progesterone. I got a 6.5 and an 8.8 on clomid, a 6.9 and a 4.2 on my own. My doctor wouldn't up my clomid dose so I found a new doctor. His first step was to up my clomid dose to 100mg and he's testing my progesterone at 7dpo... if its not high enough, he'll put me on progesterone supplements.

Definitely get some help! I believe I had 1-2 chemical pregnancies, possibly as a result of my low progesterone!

And clomid can have a cumulative effect on your CM ... mine was different each cycle.

Lisaf - thanks so much for explaining this!!! I have my first CD22 blood test next Thursday and I know my surgery will just tell me the figure but not explain what it means! They always do that over the phone :growlmad:

So now I know what I need to be hoping for! Thanks :flower:

Thanks LisaF :flower: That was very helpful. Now, only if our doctors could be this informative:dohh:

Good luck:thumbup:

Lol, glad to help. I've become a mini-expert on this it seems since my doctor was clueless as well. I had an arguement with the nurse about needing my bloodwork done on CD24, not CD21.. she said she checked with the doctor and he insisted on day 21. I figured if I didn't do it their way, they wouldn't consider the results valid. So I get my results, low.... and then I make an appointment. The doctor looks at my BBT chart, and says 'oh, of course it was low, it should have been done 7dpo' :dohh: That doc also wouldn't let me take the progesterone supplements until I got a BFP... well the 2 times I seemed to get them, I started pre-AF spotting basically at the same time.

My new doctor is awesome, lol. I'm waiting to hear my blood test results today for progesterone! Really hoping the higher dose of clomid fixed it! :)

I should add that not all doctors have the same opinion about minimum levels... but if you test borderline or low several times, then they shouldn't keep dismissing your concerns.

Women who haven't ovulated usually get a 1 or lower.

Thanks LisaF....I am armed with lots of questions for my doctor now!! Hopefully I will get sensible answers like you have suggested! At least if they give me another blood test i can get a more accurate results at 7DPO, I hope they also confirm that the measurements should be 30+ on clomid& actually do something!

I'll keep you posted as I am going to docs tomorrow! Im seeing a female doc as apposed to the male doc who i'd previously been seeing (and lost all confidence in!)

Thanks again

Good luck!!!
One thing they will tell you is that progesterone fluctuates throughout the day, so just because the test was below the level they like, doesn't mean it isn't higher the rest of the day... lol.. thats why they woudln't do anything different for me after just 1 low test.

Just got my progesterone result in.. 15.2 (US) !!!!!! :happydance: :happydance: :happydance:
upping the clomid dose worked perfect!!!!!

Yey thats brilliant news! You must be so pleased!!!

I'm alot happier today as the doc I saw actually listened to me, looked into my cycle and BT results from previous two and has upped my dose to 100mg! She also gave me two BT slips one for day 21 and one for when I believe is 7 days after OV, hopefully i'll get a definitive result this time! She also told me not to bother with any supplements other than the pregnacare conception multi vit so am just gonna take that this cycle! I was going to start EPO and Royal Jelly but think i'll listen to her advice!

Are you taking any supplements?

Firefox - SO happy to hear they upped your dose! My GYN woudln't listen to me and I had to go see an FS to get the higher dose I knew I needed.
Thats brilliant that your doc also gave you 2 blood tests. I think thats a GREAT compromise :haha:

My FS said that its typically best not to take any supplements while on clomid - you dont' want anything else interfering. So I stopped my chinese herbs and the vitex I had been on. I still take my vitamins though which he said were ok.
I take a women's daily multivitamin (includes folic acid) and a B-100 complex (more folic acid) and some omega-3 oil capsules (I can't eat any seafood/fish, so my acupuncturist thought these would be good for me). My FS was ok with all the vitamins.

I'm just so happy this cycle, I will be crushed if it doesn't end up with a BFP, lol!

Hey ive got everything crossed for you! What CD are you now?

Ive been taking omega 3 too as i dont eat any fish either, suppose that cant hurt then! Its difficult to know what to take as there are soo many supplements out there!

I love having my acupuncturist to help guide me in taking the right vitamins/supplements.
I was too nervous to do it on my own before.

haha Yay to another non-fish eater!

I'm CD22, about 7-8dpo right now and already driving myself nuts with symptoms. I mean, its the only time where you can have symptoms but it still be too early to test, you know? Come 11dpo, 12dpo etc its really too late to not be having a BFP (at least with a 12 day LP like me)
