Boss making me feel like shit

I think I'm leaning more towards doing that to be honest.. I'm working today and tomorrow, then I'm off Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and I'm going to see my midwife on Monday, so I'm gonna discuss it with her and then probably go in and talk to my manager about it at some point after that. I just keep feeling guilty 'cause I'll be earning much less for 4 weeks (I'm gonna take sick leave rather than take maternity leave early 'cause that works out for the best on the whole). But I think it's best for me and baby so never mind!

I'm sorry you're feeling rough and hope it gets better soon!

Playing devils advocate: when I was working and managing a team of client facing staff, it used to annoy the heck out of me when people used to text instead of call- especially when I used to get a periodic running commentary over the course of a few hours on whether they may or may not make it in to work depending on whether they were feeling okay or not at that moment in time. I preferred it if they would just wait until they knew if they were going to come in or not and then tell me in good time what they had decided via a phone call so I had enough time to arrange cover and also speak to them directly to find out what was going on with their health etc.

Also, I think you should tell your boss from the outset of the shift which tasks are going to be too difficult for you - if you have told him you're okay to come in you can't feel slighted if he doesn't realise that you're coming in expecting lighter duties. I would tell him outright that you can't do any of the harder physical work and ask him to decide whether he would prefer for you to go off sick or come in on lighter duties.

Bump bear I agree with you to a point, however I think her manager should have already carried out a number of risk assessments for pregnant women, probably at least 2 for the op and be well aware of what he's asking is too much for someone nearing their third trimester!
Xx

I get what you mean, but like I said it's just kind of different with this place.. I never would have dreamed of texting in sick at the last place I worked at, but it's a lot more casual here. It's like the done thing. And he would have just said if that wasn't good enough.

Also I wasn't giving him a running commentary over a few hours, I sent him one text saying I was fine, 'cause I felt fine, then one 20mins later saying I was in pain again. I know this isn't ideal but it was unavoidable!

And I did tell him my limits before I went in. I specifically told him I wasn't gonna be able to do anything too strenuous. That combined with the fact that he knew I'd been in hospital the day before, and just the fact that I'm almost in my third trimester, should be enough to stop him from asking me to do things like sweeping and mopping..
