Kailey Summer -
It all started on Thursday i woke up and was in a lot of pain in my pelvis and was having braxton hicks all morning but because me and hubby had arranged to go shopping with his sister and her family i got ready and off we went. Walking around the mall was very painful at first but then everything started loosening up so i enjoyed my day.
5pm: i was chatting to my bestfriend on FB and i started to get really tired, by 6:30 i had fallen asleep on the couch, hubby insisted i go to bed but i kept resisting until about 7:15pm i gave in and he tucked me in. I woke up every couple of hours but then didnt wake up again until hubby got to bed..
1:50am: Hubby came to bed, he cuddled me for a few minutes and then i rolled over, as i did i felt a trickle run down. I thought id just peed myself so i got up to go to the toilet, as soon as i stood up i felt a small gush and then another. I just stood there and he asked what was wrong and i said i think my waters just broke.. he asked if i was sure and i said i dont know. I went to the toilet and i peed but still felt it wasnt pee. After what seemed like forever hubby told me to call the birth suite so i went into the loungeroom to find my antenatal card and to grab the phone, as i passed the kitchen i felt another gush and then another until it was streaming down my legs and i knew for sure that it was my waters. I called out to him, he got out of bed and was straight onto the phone to the birth suite. I called my mum and off we were to the hospital..
2:30am: We arrived at the hospital. I was put straight into a room, they did a pee test and checked the pad i was wearing to make sure that it was infact my waters. Things start to get blurry after this point. But i was put onto the maternity ward both hubby and my mum were asked to leave.
5am: I started to have contractions, they were about 10 mins apart. They started out as only period type pains very managable so i kept to myself. I went to the toilet and had my bloody show, i told the nurse on duty and she said it was normal and to let them know once my contractions ramped up. I was pacing back and fourth between contractions and when they came i leant down on the bed and breathed. I had a midwife watch me and guide me through them she said i was doing great. Then after maybe 2 hours the contractions moved into my back, they were harder to get through i started groaning and breathing heavy which again the midwife was watching and commenting how great i was doing. It was nice to be reassured i was doing well.
9am: I started to get emotional and wanted hubby there by my side so i went to the nurses station and called him, he had only got maybe 4 hours sleep and didnt want to come in until much later but by this stage i was starting to cry through contractions and needed him.
10am: My hubby and mum were back, they were so helpful talking me through contractions a very good distraction. A midwife told him to walk me up and down the hallway as they said i was progressing very slowly, every 2 meters i had to stop and breath through a contraction. They seemed to be coming very reguarly but when i sat down they stopped so i was insistant on keeping walking.
5pm (approx): The contractions were coming 5 mins apart by now and the pain in my back was unbearable i was screaming through each and every contraction, i wanted to jump out of my skin. I was moved from the shared room to a single room. By 7pm i couldn't handle the pain anymore so i begged for something stronger than panadol. I was given a morphine shot which put me to sleep. I slept for about an hour and then it wore off and the back pain came back and was A LOT worse.
I'm not sure what time it was but i started to feel the need to push so i was rushed to the birth suite where they did an internal and i was only 6cms. I was told i needed to stop the need, so i was given gas to try and relax as well as relieve my back pain as i was still screaming through each one. The gas wasn't working for my back so i was offered saline injections, the first 30 secs were excruiating i screamed for about 10 mins and bawled my eyes out but then when i overcame the shock it was amazing.
Around 10/10:30pm (give or take) I was offered a bath which i took. Sitting in the bath was instant relief but with each contraction i was pushing, i couldn't help it. The doctor first told me i would cause nothing but damage if i continued where as the midwife said try not to but dont worry if i couldn't. I was given gas in the bath to try again to stop my urge to push, it must have been alot stronger than the one in the room as i fell asleep in the bath. The back pain returned so i was given another dose of the saline injections into my back. After that was done i was really pushing so the midwife said that she would do one last internal and if i wasnt full dilated she would make me have an epidural. And when she did the internal i was fully dilated.
12am: time for some serious pushing. She wanted me to birth on all fours, so i started pushing but 30 mins into it i was too tired so i laid on my back, it was very hard pushing but the relief was excellent. With every push i felt like i wasn't getting anywhere, i kept doubting myself telling them i couldnt do it but my midwife was great she kept saying that i am doing it and i will
1:25am: Kailey entered the world. She was placed straight up on to my chest and i remember just thinking she is the most beautiful baby i have ever seen, she was so warm and she looked right up at me. she didnt make a single noise she just looked so content laying there. Then i felt something warm, she did her first wee and poo on my thigh i just laughed and gave her a kiss.
I'll finish off by telling you the first thing i said when she came out..

It all started at 5am on the 17th of August. I woke up, needed to pee but was pleasantly surprised to see a fair bit of blood when i wiped! I knew it was my bloody show so woke up hubby to tell him. I asked him if he could take the day off as i knew labour would be pretty close (or so i had hoped!) so he rang his boss. I had gone to wee a few more times (more so i could be sure it was my actual show!) and noticed there was quite a bit of blood so i got onto the phone to the delivery suite after posting on here. I was told to stick a pad on and wait 30 mins, if i had at all leaked onto the pad she would want to know and i would possibly come in to be checked. I checked it at 6:45 and it seemed to have settled so i was happy.
We decided that we would go out for the day, have what we hoped would be our last day as a family of 3, i also wanted to spoil DD as things would change dramatically for her once little man arrived. So i spent the next couple of hours fussing around. We were just heading out the door at 9:45 when i felt a small gush, thinking it was my waters as it felt like it did with DD i went to the toilet and was shocked to see very bright blood, i wiped and a clot appeared, i wiped again and 2 more appeared. I called out to hubby that it wasn't normal and i would call the DS back, the midwife sounded concerned and told me to come in. I called my mum who had JUST got to work but was happy to come collect us.
It was 11am (or there abouts) by the time we arrived at the hospital. I was put straight onto the CTG machine, had blood pressure checked and the midwife wanted to have a peek at the pad, she guessed a heavy show but would ask an OB's opinion. 15 mins later an OB came in, she wanted to do a speculum and an internal. Spec showed definitely from the cervix so a heavy show and the internal had me at 3cms, she did another S&S and my waters were definitely intact. She wanted me to stay a little longer, about an hour to see how the bleeding went on.
By 12 i was having very irregular contractions every 10 mins, dropped to 5, went up to 7 so was a little frustrating. By 2pm-ish they were coming into my back and were about 5-6 mins apart. I walked around the room, stood and swayed, sat down at times to see if they stopped but they came every 10 mins while sitting. At 3 we were asked if we wanted to wander downstairs and get some food, so off we went and walking down took a while as they were so intense but coming only 5-6 mins. I knew they weren't REAL contractions as i knew they would rip through me. We went back up stairs, we only took about 30 mins. I was put back onto the CTG for another hour, it sucked as the contractions were in my back so it was pretty ouchy! At 4:30 the OB instructed the midwife to do another internal if i had progressed they would keep me in but if i hadnt they would send me home to labour on my own. I hadn't progressed so we were told to come home. As a joke on the way out the midwife said "hopefully you will be like one of our girls who came in, 2 contractions later she had a baby!..."
After waiting for my mum to come pick us up, we didn't get home until about 6:30-6:45. I made a joke that my mum would only have to wait an hour before i called to say my waters broke! She said "nah it will be in the middle of the night because its bitterly cold!"
I pottered around the house, watched some tv and put DD to bed at about 8pm. I tried to have a lie down, a bit of a sleep but the contractions were too ouchy to lay down. By 9:30 i urged hubby to go to bed, get some sleep as i was sure i would go into labour. He agreed so off he went, i lasted 2 contractions while in bed but i was disturbing him too much so i went and laid on the couch. I got myself into a great position where the pain wasn't so bad so bummed around on FB. They were getting quite painful, and i was getting upset so i put the laptop down and closed my eyes. I woke up at about midnight, went and peed, had to stop midway down the hallway through a contraction, trying not to make noise. I peed climed back on the couch but this time couldnt get back into my comfy position.
I was jumping off the couch onto all fours on the loungeroom floor through every contraction, i knew they were closer together but wasn't sure. It was about 1:30am i timed them at every 5 mins lasting 1 minute. I climbed into bed with hubby but kept jumping up through contractions, i went to the toilet again and ended up just screaming through 2 contractions. I opend the toilet door which faces our bedroom fell to the floor and bawled hysterically, i was howling and screaming i just couldn't hold it in anymore. Through a break i managed to get myself up off the floor, turn the light on in our room crawl over to the bed where another one hit me, i told hubby we had to go back to the hospital. He was half asleep and said "try ride it out babe, the pains are good" but i was hysterical, i fell to the floor when a contraction hit. I threw the phone at him and my hospital book and begged he called. He agreed and because i was howling she told him to get me there ASAP. I called my mum twice, first time i hung up as a contraction hit and i couldn't talk. The second she answered, tried to make a joke but knew i needed her. It was 2am.
I got dressed as i was just in knickers, bra and a very old shirt, that took effort. Hubby fussed over DD getting her ready. It was around 20 past by the time my mum arrived. It took me a while to get into the car as sitting was unbearable. I was very vocal outside my house (my poor neighbours!) i got into the car and couldn't talk. My mum must have known as she didn't say a word. I was near jumping through the windscreen through each contraction which still remained at every 5 mins lasting a minute. The hospital i was booked into is a good 20 minute drive. Halfway there hubby told me my contractions had dropped to every 3 mins. I then started to feel the urge to push. My mum just begged me to stop, she started to drive faster.
We got to the hospital at 2:40am. I fell to the ground as i got out of the car as the contractions were so intense. Somehow hubby managed to get me to the entrance which was an after hours so we had to buzz, i was screaming. We got let in and my god the LONGEST trip into the lift then the LONGEST corridor to the delivery suite. We got there, had to buzz to get in. We got in, i fell up against the first counter i saw by this stage i was really screaming through contractions. Then i looked up and saw 3 midwives all smiling at me, looking very sympathetic. I managed to walk, i was introduced to Megan who took me straight to a room. It was 2:50 when we walked into the room, she wanted to do an internal see how far i had progressed. I said i couldnt lay down but would LOVE some pain relief, she was like super woman whipped out the gas turned it on, i had one huge suck through a contraction and needed to lay down i was so spaced! I ripped my pants off, she started to get the gear ready for the internal. I kept sucking knowing another was coming soon, just as i felt it coming i felt a pop, then a gush and announced my waters had broken. She stopped what she was doing, nodded her head then i let out the biggest growl, my body was pushing. (hubby had plopped himself down on the recliner got himself very comfy!) then she said "i see a head" he sat there and then i growled again pushed harder and she said "hes crowning.... slow it down" he jumped up instantly grabbed my hand and i just kept going, one last push and out popped his head! Then another and he was out and straight onto my chest! Hubby asked what the time of birth was and she said "ive got it as 2:54am"
We are all so smitten by our beautiful boy. He is such a content happy baby. Best of all he wasn't born posterior
