Both sides?

Valerie very rarely feeds from both sides in one feeding. Is this ok? She goes about 10-15 minutes on one side and then about 2 1/2-3 hours later she is hungry for her next feeding. She always empties one side and I usually offer the other side to her but she is either passed out or not hungry. So I start with that side at her next feeding. I can tell she's definitely getting enough from her weight gain and diapers, but just wanted to make sure this is ok to do. I'm making enough milk too...that isn't a problem. I'm just worried about leaving that other breast full as I don't have the time to always pump after a feeding.

It's fine just to feed from one side - I only ever use one side for each feed, and Sam's weight gain is fine after 4 months. I don't pump the unused side either, and it's never uncomfortably full any more (used to leak all the time!)

As long as her weight gain and number of wet/dirty nappies are all ok you don't need to worry x

i had a similar problem with callum, he would ONLY feed off my left side, never my right and in the end i had to give up, couldnt get the hang of expressing my milk.

sorry it's not much help for you.

yeah im sure thats fine as long as hes feeding enough to get the through to the hind milk that youl be fine , i only ever do it one side a feed then next feed do the other side xxx

Yeah, that is what I do. I'm pretty sure she is getting through to the hindmilk. She sucks the side she is on until the breast is pretty much bone dry. Haha! Wouldn't she be getting the hindmilk then? She is always very content and sleeps very well. I think I go through about 3-4 let downs in the time that she is on the breast.

If she's emptying the breast she'll definitely be getting the hindmilk x

oh yes of course if shes feeding for that long that will be fine i think i usually start noticing my milk go a proper milky colour after about 10 mins of feeding which i guess is the hind milk coming through xx

You're doing it EXACTLY right ;)

You should notice in a little while, that your breast starts to feel more normal (not so full)... don't worry, you arent' loosing milk, you are regulating.

Just wanting you to have a heads up, because it might make some women think they're not keeping their milk.

Great job noticing the 'several' let downs... 3-4 soudns perfect.

Thanks for this! I was wondering if I might be losing my milk. I only ever notice 1 let down, but she's definitely getting the creamy milk, cause I notice that it's really white.

You might only have one let down, some women have more holding tank capacity though most women all have the same production capability. You might have one long letdown whereas some might have 3-4 over a feed. :)
