the rate of weight gain from here on out! it may sound vain but i really was hoping to only gain around 20 lbs (ha yeah right...) because i already had a little extra weight on me before getting pregnant that i was self conscious about. i know you're supposed to gain 25-35 lbs but i figured i should gain less because of the extra weight i had pre-pregnancy. so here i am, 27 weeks tomorrow, and i've already gained approx. 16 lbs. i'm just worried, well worried might be the wrong word...if my baby is healthy i honestly dont care what i gain! but i guess i'm just curious if i will become a whale in the last 3 months. a few people have told me it piles on towards the end so i'm just wondering, is this true? thanks in advance!

p.s. here's me at around 24 weeks and then just my belly around 25 weeks. so many people have said "wow its SO big already, you're gunna be HUGE!) yeah, thanks guys... ;)

I'm curious too. I've just been weighed and I've put on 12lbs which I was pretty impressed with (I was big ish to start with though UK16/US12).

I've already lost sight of my 'lady' area and it won't be long till I can't see my feet.

I think we all grow at completely different rates but I would be interested to know how much more I'm going to weigh! The thought of loosing it all scares me.

^
oh goodness my 'lady area' is long gone, i haven't been able to see it in weeks or maybe even a month or so! and yes the prospect of having to lose a bunch of weight is a scary thought, i feel like weight is soo easy for me to put on but really hard to get back off!! gotta work on my willpower i suppose.

I think it depends on you personally. I was overweight already uk size 16-18. but i am 36 weeks and i havent even put on 14pounds (1 stone) all pregnancy. Probably because i had bad nausea at the beginning and lost some weight.

I wondered the same hun so I googled it and it said that by the time baby is due a normal weight gain is about 3stone that includes extra blood for u n baby, waters (both what baby is in and what u hold during pregnancy, also ur womb and weight about 2lbs more than when pregnant extra weight on boobs n stuff too

But tbh every1 is different... I weighed myself this morning and I am now back up to my starting weight before I got preg x

I'm due tomorrow and I've put on, from what I'm just guessing I weighed pre-pregnancy, about 57 pounds! I think I was about 130lbs pre-pregnancy, and it's ALL baby! And my butt is huge, but let's not talk about that. :p Everyone says my bump looks fake, like I have a beach ball tucked under my shirt! I started showing really early too, at about 10 weeks.

Woops, sorry for the huge pics! But hopefully that makes you feel a bit more confident!

woah Dolly, awesome belly!! it's amazing how our bodies change.

I started out 165 (I'm 5'7) and was already chunky to begin with..I've had wo kids so is it fair to blame it all on them? :winkwink: I've put on 22 pounds so far but I've been dealing with a lot of emotional issues and seem to eat more when I'm stressed. If I COULD get myself to stick to a good healthy diet I wouldnt be in this flubbery situation. I'm just going to try to stick to fruits, veggies, grains, and the occasional batch of cinnimon rolls :dohh: I'm also going to start walking in the evenings. Not only will it help with the weight issues but also help prepare body for when baby comes. Don't fret my dear. There's always some bigger, with more swollen ankles, and a bigger butt to begin with :)
We should buddy up! Is this your first? I'm due Christmas day! Wooot!

Yep depends on person. I was overweight before pregnancy and have now gained a total of 11 lbs. My first gained 25 lbs so it just differs. Try and not stress to much. I have seen three women in person recently who just gave birth to babies this month and they dropped down in weight so quickly and mind you they were not skinny things before. So there is hope. I plan on breastfeeding to help along the weightloss. Your bump looks cute by the way!

You look fantastic with a super cute bump! My bump has gotten a lot larger in the past few weeks, not sure how big I will get by the end! If you keep going like you are, you will be just fine sweets!

i'm awful at remembering to revisit threads i started. sorry it took so long! yes this is my first. and it would be fabulous to have a fellow Christmastime due date buddy :)

I'm coming up on 30 weeks... and I can tell you as this is my 3rd pregnancy... that there's really no predicting, hun.
1st pregnancy -- began overweight -- no exercise, ate whatever I wanted -- gained 12 lbs total.

2nd pregnancy -- began overweight -- no exercise, ate whatever I wanted -- gained 24 lbs total.

3rd pregnancy (current) -- began at a healthy weight and high fitness-level-- exercise about 2x per week (which I know isn't crazy Superwoman, but hey!! It's better than I did in my last two pregnancies!!), don't count calories but certainly eat healthier than I did before.... ALREADY gained 27 lbs, and there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to it.

So... there's no way to tell you what your rate of gain will be... I had hoped mine would slow down in third tri. First tri I hardly gained, second tri I gained rapidly, third tri I seem to still be gaining rapidly. In the first 3 weeks of third tri I've already gained an additional 7 lbs from where I was when I started 3rd tri.

Plllllleeeeeease don't tell me I'll gain 20 lbs in third tri to match the 20 I gained in second!! :haha:

I think it depends on your body. I had gained about 18 lbs till 36 weeks (was gaining half a pound a week), but when I went for my check up at 38 weeks, I hd gained 3 lbs in 2 weeks! So now I am at 21 lbs weight gain. Not sure what I ate that I gained so much in 2 weeks, but I think its very random.

I'm 29 weeks tomorrow and have gained almost 26 pounds. I am on pelvic rest, so no exercise, but it's not like I did any before getting pg. My friend gained 60 pounds...didn't look overweight at all when I saw her about 4 weeks before giving birth, and had lost everything by 6 months. As much as I stress about it, i really do think if we eat reasonably healthy and the same as before getting pg, then it really doesn't matter what we gain! But obvioulsy I still weight myself every week and get upset

Dollyx: I am carrying just like you are. It looks like I swallowed a beach ball. I have really not gained weight anywhere else though. I have gained about 33 pounds so far. The last week I gained 3 pounds. It must be some water weight though. I was 117 pounds pre pregnancy.

I'm curious too...I didn't gain a single pound first 12 weeks, then gained 3lbs from 12-16, 5 more from 16-20, 7 more 20-24, then 10 more 24-28; so I've gained 25 lbs total so far and I'm not quite 29 weeks. I was shocked because I didn't gain at all in first tri and was really hoping to only gain around 25 total since I started out overweight. I'm fine gaining more than that but it feels like the rate of 2+ pounds per week that I've been going at for the last couple months is not exactly ideal.

I really feel like I put it all on at once when I popped in second tri, and am hoping that maybe it tapers off during the rest of the pregnancy!

I've put on 31 lbs thus far (by my 30 week appt, anyway). 2 of them were third tri pounds.

I'm almost 37 weeks and in total I have gained 7kgs, pre pregnancy I weighed 92 kgs and as of last week I was 99 and I have been worried my whole pregnancy that I'm not putting on any weight... Thinking I was doing something wrong! Even with having gestational diabetes and being put on insulin... Although I look huge! And the doctor is telling me to expect a big baby... Everyone has told me I look like I have lost weight!!
I think most of the weight I have put on was in the 3rd trimester... Maybe 4kgs!
:)
