break the bank prams- showboating or necessity?

I ws a bit stupid and "above myself" with #2 pram, thought I was clever buying a Jane super dooper disc break three-wheeler jobby with all tweets and whistles.
No one else had anything like it and it did look as expensive as it was.
Ended up selling it buy 3 months because it was a totally impractical buy (for our family, nothing actually wrong with it itself) lost loads of money on it (which I didn't really have to waste)
Brought a Mclaren for about £120 which lasted until #2 was 3yo, fitted our life (and boot space) much better.
If you have the money and it fits the requirements go for it.
But I'll be thinking on much more practical terms next time. Well no I wont because OH will definitely be having his say on it.

I also have a Graco travel system. It's called Olivia and it's pink and pretty and normal here lol... We are getting the kinds like in the UK and seriously I wouldn't spend the money on them. Not that I think they are crap or anything, I am sure they are lovely but I have more important things to spend my money on, like a very nice ERF car seat for $300.00 which is WAYYYY less than some of those strollers! I don't have the money for both, so I shall prioritize.

i spent 500 pound on a pram, used it for a few months then decided a new cheaper one was better :)

My travel system was £650. It was money well spent. I have a friend who spent £100 on her travel system and the wheel broke so she sent it back to get it replaced. The replacement systems wheel also broke so she got a new one again.. then sold it LOL Stokke prams are well over £1000 and i think thats a bit too much for me. I wouldnt spend that much but I'd spend upto £850.
Plus I think the cheap ones look dreadful and clumpy.

+ I hate the travel systems that when you put the carseat in, the baby is like hidden in a shell

This time round, I still have my Quinny but I really want a bugaboo bee. Dont think I can afford it though :(

Ditto what Blah said i cannot stand travel systems with the carseats on them .. really all they are is a buggy with a carseat clipped on and they look dreadful ! also they leave parents with no choice but spend like what? the first couple of months with their child crammed into a carseat EVERYWHERE they go :/ babies are not suppose to be in carseats for extended periods so i don't know why they even let them make them to be honest, then at about 3-4 months (from what ive seen) parents ditch the carseat and the tiny baby gets put in the buggy part and looks utterly drowned by its surroundings... so again no i don't think its showing off to buy a good quality pram.. if by good quality you mean where the child can actually lay down FLAT ? ....... sorry if that was a little rude, but not much ruder then being called a show off for spending your money on something you deem important ..

EDIT: i had a little google cos after i wrote that, i thought that can't be right they can't actually sell a newborn buggy where the baby cannot lay flat .. turns out these cheaper systems DO infact have a carry cot option! so never mind lol ! :p x

We had a travel system where you could use the car seat or the flat carry cot. If we were out somewhere for short while, like an hour in total including a car journey then we would use the car seat on the frame. Any longer then when we stopped we put Emma into the carry cot part. As did all the mums I know. When you see a LO in a carry seat on the frame you don't know how long they have been in it.

I also much preferred when she was in the car seat and was covered. It felt as if she was pretty secure and protected from around her.

i have a bit of a pram obsession, and i only use prams half the time because i prefer wearing :dohh:
all but 2 of mine were secondhand though so i dont think i even totaled the price of one of the snazzy prams.

i have to disagree on the travel system carseat thing though, i did buy one, as ugly as it was i do think it was very practical, my lo was never in the carseat more than an hour as it was only ever used when he fell asleep in car so i could pop him on the pram without waking him to pop to the shop or something, if he was awake then i would lay him flat in the buggy.

i think if you have the money then why not? if you dont then theres no need to waste money that could go to good use on something else.
