Anyone else out there breast feeding a big baby? My big boy arrived last sat weighing 10lb1oz, I have been feeing him since birth myself but sometimes feel like I may be over feeding him?? He seems ravenous sometimes x

Firstly, congratulations!

Arthur was 10lbs 5oz at birth. To be honest, he fed a lot less (it seemed) than his 8lb 7oz born sister, but I was tandem nursing when he came along, so he probably didn't have to work as hard for the milk.

Babies do vary regardless of birth weight in how much they feed. It's very normal to feel like all you do is nurse in the first few weeks. If he's not throwing up lots of milk, you're not overfeeding him. Go with it, and trust your body to produce what he needs.

You can't overfeed him, just keep up the good work and let him nurse whenever he wants to :)

Mine was born quite small (7lbs 5oz, 38w) but quickly grew very big and shot up to 91st centile weight and length where he's stayed ever since. He is always very hungry and eats often during the day. In the early days he ate more than slept lol! Now he's become a pro and can drain a boob in 5 minutes flat when he's not distracted lol!

I've found my biggest babies fed less and seemed to be filled more easily than the smaller ones (have had babies ranging from 7lb 12-9lb 12) xx

I just had a 10lb 11oz baby last Sunday and he's constantly on the boob,I can't seem to satisfy him. He's been on since 7am this morning.imnot sure if he's hungry or just comfort sucking

There is a huge variety of normal :).
My dinky girlie fed constantly and for hours, my big boy easily goes 3 hours between feeds a few times a day. I don't think it has anything to do with weight, just follow your babies cues!

My girl was born 8lb 8oz, but at not quite 6 months is already 20lb! As PP said you cannot overfeed a BF baby. It is completely normal for your LO to feed constantly at first (and during growth spurts!). Congrats on your baby!

It seems never-ending but it doesn't last forever. My son right now (10lbs 8oz at birth) feeds a lot, largely comfort sucking I reckon, but I remember from my previous (also very large) babies that this doesn't last forever, Just stick with it x

My big boy was 10-11 at birth and now at 5.5 months he weighs just over 19 pounds. I have exclusively breastfed him from day one and will be starting solids at 6 months.
He also was a ravenous eater - he's my first so I don't have much to compare to - but I hear there are different types of eaters- lazy ones and ravenous ones! I'm thankful for my ravenous eater because he gets the job done and then we can have fun with other things in life :)
I also don't think you can over feed a breast fed baby

Keep going! My boy was 8,12 at 37weeks (induced due to size and prev shoulder dystocia with my daughter) he feeds very often! And is now ten weeks and at his 9 week check (last week) he was 14lb 3oz so he is gaining plenty of weight!! Your baby will take what he needs and when becoming more efficient at draining the breast feeds will become shorter :) xx
