Ok this could be the most stupid question on Earth but I will ask anyway as it's been bothering me.
I am heading towards being 32 weeks pregnant and although my nipples have changed a lot over this time, I have yet to have any sign whatsoever of producing milk.
Women less weeks pregnant than I complain all the time on these forums of leaking etc, yet even when I squeeze a bit nothing comes out at all.
My question is, how can I possibly breast feed my baby an hour after it's born if I continue to seemingly produce nothing?
I want to have that connection with bubs right away but I am getting worried that I won't even get the chance :(

I am 38 weeks and have NOTHING either. But my sister assured me that this was the exact same case with her and sure enough, she produced enough colostrum right after birth to keep her baby happy :)

Yeah, you'll get it.. I never have leakage before my babies arrival... But I've breastfed all three kids till they were two years old.. It will be there when you LO needs it.. Also, it's in the way they latch on and suck that brings on the production... That kind of suction can't be duplicated... So just because it's not leaking, doesn't mean theres none in there... :)

I never leaked with my first, and even now that I'm of with my 5th, I don't leak a lot. I can squeeze some out, but not a lot. Here's the deal. First, it's actually the hormones released while giving birth that tell your body to produce milk. Usually it takes 2-4 days for your milk to actually come in. Before that, it's colostrum that baby drinks, and it's not a lot. Laylagirl is right in that baby is much more efficient at getting it out than squeezing or even pumping. ( don't pump before giving birth. Can cause preterm labor) your baaby will get plenty of what they need. Try not to be concerned.

Recently, my friend's milk didn't come in until a few days after birth. So she had to formula feed for a few days but was able to switch to breast feeding as soon as the milk came in. Don't let people scare you into thinking you won't be able to breast feed ever if you can't do it immediately.

The stimulation from baby should be all it takes. Some women stimulate their nipples all through pregnancy. I remember with my first I was much like you at about 29-30 weeks I got worried and the bf woman I spoke to said to use a rough cloth to stimulate nipples and "toughen" them up so I wouldn't be so sore as a new mother. Dont really know if it worked as i was only able to bf for about two months.

I agree with luvspnk, laylagirl, and tulip. (I must have been typing while they were, I missed their posts)

There really is no such thing as "roughing" up nipples.. Lol
It's a painful beginning for any mom I think when they start breaatfeeding...no matter how much pinching or pulling or any other methods to try and prepare them..it's all in baby's mouth how they latch on and begin the breaatfeeding journey... It's tough at first but it eventually never hurts...

lol! I kinda figured it out but was young and my bf coach was very old school and not very helpful afterwards! Didn't even bother contacting that group with #2 and ended up EBF for about 6months before I began to dry up.

No leakage for me either and I bf'd both mine til a year. I'll be doing the same this time. Don't fall into the "no milk, need to ff" trap either. Your colostrum is more than enough until your milk comes in. Good luck xx

Yep, another none leaking breastfeeder here.
Colostrum was there as soon as baby was, mill can in a few days later with absolutely no issues.
I'm not leaking or able to squeeze anything out yet either. My OH is a happy man, he gets my boobs just that little longer before he's muscled out by my little lady.

lol, that made me laugh...

You ladies are awesome, really puts my mind at ease, thank you :D
I am not one to 'plan how I want everything to go with bringing up my child but I am pretty determined to be able to breastfeed as soon as I can. Even if that means failing but persevering til it happens!

Although you may hear of women leaking prior to giving birth it definitely doesn't happen for everyone. Absolutely nothing came out of my breasts until after LO was born and I breastfed him successfully for 18 months. This time around I am over 40 weeks and again no leaking. Totally normal, doesn't mean anything is wrong and colostrum will appear once you've delivered your baby...or shortly thereafter.

Milk does not come in until 2-5 days after giving birth. Do NOT supplement with formula. Colostrum is all they need until your milk comes in.

I never leaked in my first pregnancy and havent this time either. DD fed quite happily straight after birth and we continued to do so with no supply issues until 21 months :flower:

Yup another one who never leaked before. If I squeeze my right nipple, I can get a few pin pricks of colostrum but nothing from my left and Im past DDay now. Tbh it's less faff if you don't need breast pads at this stage!

He was to head strong took me an mw hold him could only fed 10mins(oh says ppl my arms werent long enough) id never held baby before this either. No2 didnt give me option i was on meds anyways.
