Hi guys, just a quick question... I am having trouble with baby latching on at the mo so have been using the breast pump and expressing milk into the bottle, also using formula milk while she get's the hang of it. Everything fine, but I find that she doesn't sleep as long after having breast milk... about an hour and she wakes up and is hungry again - is this normal? With the formula she will sleep for like 3/4 hours!!!

Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm a first time mum figuring it all out!!

Thanks xxx

Others might be able to tell you more but I think the theory is that formula satisfies them for longer because it's not as easy for their tummies to digest. Having said that, I never noticed a difference with Aisling.

Yeah it's not that it's more satisfying but that it takes longer to digest.

Yep - it's just not as easy to digest so it takes longer for them to digest and therefore tehy dont feel hungry as quickly. Depending on your view point that can be seen as a negative OR a positive!

:)

My HV told me that breast milk takes 20 minutes to digest and formula takes 4 hours!

The above posters said it all, breastmilk is easier to digest so they eat a bit more often. I didn't notice a big difference when I was feeding both though

its like the difference between having a christmas dinner and having a normal healthy meal. you eat the christmas dinner because its there in front of you andyou eat too much your too stuffed you sleep all afternoon and feel quite crappy and never want to eat again!. Breastmilk is like a normal healthy meal, but you feel hungrier quicker
