Has anyone used any of the following brands of breast pumps?

Ameda
Hygeia Q
Medela

These are the brands covered by my insurance and I have no idea which product to go with.

Oops, posted in the wrong section.. how do I move/delete a thread?

I used the medela and what an awsome machine. Would definitely recommend it :)

I exclusively expressed for 6 months with dd and used a medela. It was excellent and the customer support was also very good x

I don't know how to move/delete it either, but this isn't a terrible place to ask.

I have a Medela Pump in Style Advanced (the backpack looking one, not the tote style) and think it's great.

Id go for an ameda or at least make sure its a closed system pump for your own sake

Both the Ameda and the Hygenia are closed systems, Medela is not (their home use one). I used the Medela hospital grade pump and it was fine, but probably not what your insurance covers. Out of those, I'd pick the Ameda or Hygenia. I use Ameda parts with my current pump (A Lucina Melodi, hospital grade rental-to-buy through my insurance) and I like them better than the ones that came with it.

I had a Medela swing and it was really good - this was three years ago though so not sure what's best on the market now :)

I used the Medela pump in style but if i could make one suggestion it would be to wait until the baby is born to buy one (if insurance allows). I had a really hard time breastfeeding and ended up needing a more industrial pump but if your milk supply is good, you may find a smaller one easier to travel with.

Insurance will allow only a non-hospital grade pump, so if I have to buy a hospital-grade pump, it will be completely out of pocket.

You may yet want to wait. My insurance wouldn't cover a hospital grade pump unless your child was in the NICU. My child ended up, quite unexpectedly, in the NICU. I ended up with a hospital grade pump.

I used two different medela pumps and out of the two I preferred the swing. It was much quieter and with softer cups. Ultimately, both worked and I pumped tons of milk but the swing didn't infringe on my tv watching due to the noise.

Sorry, I can't remember the name of the other model. It was a slightly smaller one but that was the only advantage

I suppose your choice might also depend on whether you are planning on feeding ebm regularly, in which case a double pump will be a huge time saver. If you plan on feeding just the occasional bottle or building a stash, then a simple single pump is going to be enough.

I used the Ameda Purely Yours for both of my sons. I breast fed them for a year. I pumped at work from the time they were two months old. Didn't have a problem at all with the pump. I really like that it's a closed system. I plan on using an Ameda for the new baby as well.
