Now I'm almost a month into bfing:happydance: I'm starting to think about getting a breast pump. Mainly just so oh can do the occasional feed (maybe once in the evening?) and occasionally for when I'm out and it may not be convenient/I don't feel comfortable nip. Also so I can eventually leave LO with my mum/in laws and me and oh can go for a meal every once in a while (although definitely not anytime soon lol!).

I know everyone responds differently to different pumps, but I want a general idea. Just wondering what pumps people would recommend? Electric or manual? Which brands are good? I need something reasonably priced as well.

Any help will be appreciated:flower:

If you're only planning on expressing occasionally, a single manual pump should be fine (and is less money, so if it doesn't work then you haven't wasted much!). They start from around £20. The Avent gets good reviews, but I personally didn't get on with it.

If you're wanting to use it every day, then electric might suit you better. I have the Lansinoh affinity double electric, it was £100 which wasn't that much more than the tommee tippee single, and certainly less than a Medela!

Thanks, I've heard the Avent manual gets good reviews, not to pricey either. Later on I'm going to spend some time window shopping online and reading reviews as I haven't actually looked properly yet.

A manual pump should suit you fine. I've got the Lansinoh breast pump and it's awesome. I've tried the Tommy Tippee breast pump in the early days and it was awful and very hard work on the wrists when pumping!

I love my Medela! I am back at work and have to pump multiple times a day, though.

So definitely no to Tommee Tippee then!

I've been doing some window shopping and have found 4 manual pumps, just need to decide which one to take the plunge on:

Avent SCF330: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-AV...f=sr_1_5?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1353616946&sr=1-5

Lasinoh manual: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lansinoh-5...sr_1_18?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1353616946&sr=1-18

Medela Harmony: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Medela-Har...sr_1_22?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1353616946&sr=1-22

MAM Manual: https://www.amazon.co.uk/MAM-Manual...sr_1_38?s=baby&ie=UTF8&qid=1353617076&sr=1-38

Decisions decisions...

I used the avent manual with my boys and it was fab! This time I got the tommee tippee hand held one and although I can get a good 5oz out at 10pm (when my milk is poor) it doesn't form a very seal around the boob and leaks! What a waste of milk! I went for it for a change and because it was only £15 in Sainsburys (was on offer).

I think I'm going to buy the Avent one again as I'm expressing once per day and will continue to do so until I stop bf'ing.

I love my medula pump in style! I pump at least once a day and will pump more often when I go back to work in a week.

Thanks for your input everyone! I think I'm going to go with the Lansinoh manual, it's seems to have consistently good reviews and is the cheapest out of the ones I short listed. Hopefully I'll have made the right choice:D

That's the one I have and loved it. Only got it after I accidentally melted my tommy Tippee one sterilising it in the microwave :dohh: The first time I used the Lansinoh manual one I was amazed at the difference and was glad I'd melted my old pump! :haha:

I have the NUK manual, it gets mixed reviews so not everyone's cup of tea but it has a hydraulic handle that is really powerful and I'm a big fan of the NUK glass bottles and have found the pump works even better with those than it does with the plastic version xx

I have a Lansinoh manual and I LOVE it. It's really great...proof that you don't need to spend a fortune for good quality. However I thought that I would only be pumping occasionally but I'm finding myself pumping more because it's convenient for my OH to do feeds when I'm out or sleeping. I also get engorged pretty quickly so I like to pump then freeze the milk, so I'm going to invest in an electric pump pretty soon. But I'm still so happy I have the Lansinoh manual!

Well I've ordered it, can't wait for it to arrive so I can test it out.
