hey girls I a question

Heres how it started lol ( in the hospital after max was born they told me he was tounge tied :( he did have lots of problems latching on ..i had plenty of colustum but baby was too tired to suck, after 2 days I was told he lost almost 2 pounds (he was only 6.5 ) when he was born so I told them to put himon formula ..i cired so much cause all i wnated to do was breastfeed and have that bond..i felt like i was a failure and till this day still do..

Home was diffrent I came home and got my milk in lol I came out of the shower and well the milk was there so I decied to try him on it again ..since we were both calm it worked but it took at least 1 hr for him to drink ..I didnt feel safe so i gave him a lil formula to ease my concerne and he took ti well too (neslte good start )

Now hes 10 weeks old and he gets both hes breast fed before each bottle ..he gets 2 -3 onz from me and i know this as i give him 1-2 onz of formula and he wont take much cause hes full ..now my question is can i ry to just breast feed him now ..he latches on great with no problems i hear him gulp at least 10 times and hear him swollo real good ..but im so scared he wont have enough..how can i tell he is done and how can i produce more milk ..dose he train my body ?

Caitlyn managed to go from having 40oz a day to being breast fed and not complaining. If you're worried, maybe cut down by 2 or so oz a day/week untill you get to him being completely on your boob?

hey it will be fine to just start breast feeding without formula. your baby will take what he needs and let you know when he is hungry. if you are not already, you will need to feed on demand. while it should be fine just keep an eye on his weight to feel better about it. good luck!

Thank god my lil guy snorts like a piglet when hes hungry lol that and he eats his whole hand I will soo try this as I dont wnat to quite breast feeeding just yet he likes it and so do i i love that bonding moment ..what if i only feed him formula bottle at night to help him sleep ..well dad will do that part lol

It's great that you want to get back to fully breastfeeding him!! And yes he does train your body to produce more - the more stimulation you get from him sucking, the more your body will be signalled to produce. It might take a few days of doing very little except feeding him, but as you're obviously giving him a good amount already, I'd suggest that you try without the formula at all. After he's had a good feed, just leave him on there to suck for as long as he wants, as that extra stimulation will let your body know that it needs to be making more than it is at the moment. If you have a pump, you could also try pumping after each feed and giving him anything you do manage to get out afterwards, as he's used to bottles already. Hope it goes well for you x

Posted before I saw any replies...sorry! But if you do still want to give him formula at night that's ok too if you are worried - you know he's ok with the bottles and latching on, and you know that way he's getting enough before he sleeps. Remember that your body won't make what he's getting from the formula though x

I forgot to mention about the pump lol lets just say ive never seen my nipple look like that ..it shocked me lol

I have the medela mini electric but when i pump i only get 1 onz if im lucky lol

so should i still pump even if it dont work on me lol i get more when doing it manually .

I'd just get your baby on there as much as possible instead. It should only take a few days of lots of sucking to gets your production up x

I say go for it- looks like you have gotten good advice from the others. Do be mindful if you decide to do away with formula (other than the night bottle), he might be a little more fussy for a day or two as your supply goes up, but do not let this worry you. That fussing is another signal to your body to make more. And he's not going to starve to death in a day or two. I would say keep pumping even though you don't get that much- every signal you give your body to make more the better. And every oz counts- put in the freezer for a later date.

well since this tread was started max has been breast feeding :) he only got formula at night feeding and hes been doing good i think ..he eats for like 45 min all together and then falls asleep is he full ? he is wetting 6 + diapers so i think hes ok

OK confused lol I just fed him and he stayed on each breats for about 20 min ..he looked full acted full and what not ..but 1 hr later he was hungry and i felt um dryed out like a prune so i gave him the last 4 onz of formula i had in the fridge he gulped it down real fast and fell alseep ? I was like WTF ? did he even get anything from me ? he was latched on ok , lips were white once he was done and he even burped 2wice ..

He would have got something from you, especially if he was satisfied afterwards. Breast milk is digested much faster than formula so he will get hungry again faster (not saying you'll be feeding every hour, but it might be quite often while you're building up your supply). I've had evenings like that with Sam where I've fed him on both sides and an hour later he's hungry again - feel like there's nothing lleft in there but I'll put him back on and he starts gulping again x

I agree with Sam's mum- even if you feel dried like a prune- put him on, he will still get something. He's going to feed more as he is getting your supply up. Sounds like you are both doing great though- congrats!!
