breastfed babies result in better behaved children?

They'll say anything to get women to breastfeed... :haha:

Seriously though I think its down to parenting, social factors etc. I hope its true - maybe my 4 months will give me 4 years of good behaviour LOL x

I truley dont belive there is this massive conspiracy to make people BF.

ITS JUST A STUDY! Some bored guy in a suit thought "hey i need grant money wht can i research...." It wasnt a group of crazy women sat around a table BF there kids laughing manically saying "this will get those damn FF"

 I kind of wish there was tbh. That image is so funny.

On a related note, researchers have found that mothers who FF are more likely to match their bras and panties than BF mothers

So just because I breastfeed I have no underwear fashion sense? :nope:

Uhmmmm....

It's ok, I don't mind.

I'll take my white granny pants and black nursing bra out of here.
 this is actually the only bit of the thread i've read, was going to avoid until now!

Im not going to lie I did try and find a picture to illustrate my point :haha:

i breastfeed but i dont think it makes a 5 yearold behave better

i think its the way we raise our kids not what they eat that makes them behave better

A likert scale does help quantify the data but it doesn't remove the judgement element. You could say this research as much finds that formula feeding mothers are more likely to think their babies have behavioural problems than breastfeeding reduces the incidence of behavioural problems.

The only indicator that isn't the case is that increased lengths of breastfeeding show a bigger reduction in the incidence of behavioural problems

That's a good point actually, I was originally thinking more along the lines that breastfeeding/formula feeding mothers had different perceptions of "good" behaviour, but the length of time/behaviour correlation would suggest that it's something to do with the actual breastfeeding.

Maybe you can start a march…. You know, demanding that manufacturers produce sets of sexy nursing bras and g-strings. I will gladly join the cause, for future benefit, you know.

I believe I AM is a breastfeeder so is actually taking the piss out of herself...(which I applaud)

Although, I am a breastfeeder too and it's quite accurate in my case :haha:

You're too kind with your compliments. Actually, I'm an ex-bfer. Now it's canned milk for the youngons.

I agree with you - I never felt pressured to BF. I think its us who puts pressure on ourselves to do what we believe is to be the 'best' whatever that may be :flower:

Well, all I can say to that is that you clearly lack discipline....

I see that now hun :flower: I always misread that 'shaking head' emoticon, must be the downturned features, or the attitude problem I have due to being formula fed....

Rubbish! I FF and Carmen is.... okay, bad example. :haha: On the other hand, I was FF as a baby and was a quite a well-behaved child, especially as a toddler. :)

How is BF an act of love? I don't get that. It's a method in which to feed your child, same as FF is???
:argh::rofl:

You know how people complain that some breastfeeders belittle formula feeders?

It goes both ways.

Of course it's an act of love. It is not just a means of feeding. It is a continuation of the physical bond between mother and child. We nourish our babies through the placenta and then through the breast. Oxytocin - the love hormone - continues to flow in both mother and child long after birth and throughout the whole breastfeeding relationship every time the child nurses. It takes over your whole life - from what you eat, how much you drink, what you wear "can I BF in this?", where you go "can I BF there?", how much (or little!) sleep you get, no one else can feed or look after LO etc. etc. etc. nursing on demand is a lifestyle not just a feeding choice. And if you have a hard journey and lots of problems to get there, like many of us have, it can be utterly exhausting, mentally and physically but we do it out of the love we have for our child.

I am NOT saying FF mothers love their babies any less. I'm simply stating why I believe it IS an act of love.

I don't want to upset FF mothers but it seems like BFing mothers have to constantly walk on eggshells in these debates.

I don't normally get involved in these kind of debates but I've got to say thats very true....

It's always the way though. There's always one troublemaker who has to taint BFing Mums... although I don't think the TROLL in this thread has actually given any indication that they are a BFer, they're just being judgemental for the sake of it.

On a lighter note...

I would bet this is true! It is in my case most of the time! x
