hey girlies:) wondering what everyones opinions are about breast feeding and about breast pumps. it worries me when i read articles about how much breast feeding hurts, and how some women start bleeding, makes me feel sick :/.what are your opinions about breast feeding? and does anyone know which breast pump hurts the least?
wouldd love answers:)

hey chick i don't know the answer to your question [coz i haven't got a bubs to breastfeed yet!] but theres a whole section on here somewhere about breastfeeding...

I'm not going to sit here and write a 10 page essay about how amazing breastfeeding is, because tbqh i don't see the point, everyone knows breastfeeding is best. But it's all down to you. No-one can say to you "It's not going to hurt" because it varies with different people. Some are lucky, some aren't. I was formula fed, along with my 2 sisters, and brother and we all turned out ok, so i haven't got a problem formula feeding my son when he's here if i need to. I think the tommee tippee range is good, an awful lot of people i know have got that breast pump, so i'm assuming it's a good one? Good luck, and whether you decide to breast feed or not, the important thing is to be happy with your decision. A happy mum = a happy baby

Ohhh this old chestnut again :dohh:

Breastfeeding is fantastic for LO, and for you too. Don't let the chance that it might sting a little bit at first put you off :flower: and i had a tommee tippee pump and it didn't hurt in the slightest xxxx

Yes it does hurt to start with and if baby not latched on properly but if they on right u dont feel a thing.

i only managed for 2 weeks but am so glad i did it and i soo miss it.

I have been breast feeding my LO now for over 2 months, not going to lie, it did hurt to begin with but if you have support from your OH and family its easy, my nipples never bled, and I bought lanolin cream and it was fantastic after the first week, it didn't hurt and its sooo easy,
but at the end of the day milk is milk, if you can't breastfeed then it doesn't matter, but I'd say atleast give it a week before giving up as thats the hardest time, and if you can get over that then fantastic :)

I haven't really found it painful at all :) the only problem I had is that I got quite sore nipples, but I just used some nipple cream (lansinoh) and that sorted it out. I haven't expressed that much but I have a tommee tippee manual pump & it doesn't hurt, just takes a bit of getting used to. everyone's different so all I can suggest is giving it a go & see how you find it x

I only found the first day painful and that was because I hadn't been told how to do it, as soon as the midwife came to mine and showed me I found it fine and haven't had any pain.definitely buy some lansinoh cream, I was quite sore from the first day and it really helped.
I've only used my pump a few times to freeze some milk but I've got the medela swinfg and have found it brilliant.

all i can say is i wish i was breast feeding now:(x

i have been breastfeeding aiden for 8 weeks now. and it's never hurt once! don't listen to the horror stories hun. breastfeeding your child is the best gift you can give them x

I breastfed Ava in the hospital and for that day only, I then switched to formula, I just didn't get on well with it, was exhausted after birth & the midwives were extremely pushy to me.
I found it a little uncomfortable at first, but I think I am extra sensitive. I don't know about pumps as I didn't use one, but I have heard Tommee Tippee ones are quite good. x

Breastfeeding is definitely hard at first, but it gets easier as your LO gets older. A lot of moms say "Oh i'll do it, it won't be that hard" but it CAN be hard and the best thing you can do is to educate yourself as much as possible about breastfeeding. I breastfeed and I also pump because I work so he can have bottles, but I do have to supplement with formula here and there only because I don't produce enough milk. With me, BFing has never hurt thank god, but I know a lot of women say it can hurt, your best bet is to invest in a lot of Lanoslin and maybe rent a pump at first to see if breastfeeding is too hard. BFing is great in my opinion it creates a bonding experience, plus I remember my nurse telling me that when you give them breastmilk it's like you're giving them a milkshake - they absolutely love it! plus it's nice because you don't have to make bottles, warm them and wash them. It's definitely a lot easier in the long run to breastfeed, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. You might like it or you might hate it, but you might as well try!

BFing shouldn't hurt, most of the time why it hurts is because the baby is not latched on properly which is why in the hospital you need to make sure you have a lot of support from the LC's and nurses. I'm not sure which pump hurts the least, I know that there are manual ones where you do it yourself and electric ones. I have a medela in-style pump and imo it's the best and just as good as a hospital grade. It's expensive but it's worth the money if you use it. Manual ones, I've heard are like plucking your eyebrows, it can be painful at first, but I'm sure after awhile you'd get a hang of it.

Also, you might find extra help & advice in the Breastfeeding section rather than the teen pregnancy! :flower:

(Sorry if someone's already said I didn't read through all the posts :dohh:)

If you're worried about using a pump/it being uncomfortable etc make sure you get a handheld one to start with, it's a lot less daunting than an electric powered one :thumb:

The only way you'll know about breastfeeding is to give it a shot, because it's different for everyone. Just remember though 99% struggle at first but once you get over the first hurdles it just gets easier and easier so try not to give up! xxx

Breastfeeding should never hurt if its being done right!..It only hurt me because my milk didnt come in for 2 weeks, and that was the hardest time of my life...But it was well worth sticking with, Electric pumping for me was uncomfortable, but worth it waiting for my milk.

I will be honest, I dindt even know formula existed until i was pregnant, so it was out of the question for me and i stuck to it (breastfeeding) and now i cant imagine my life without!
